Just a little venting real quick.

i'm up in washington to see a specialist.
I have a small exhaust leak. where the pipe meets the manafold i have a broken stud. nothing to bad, but annoying.
well i don't have tools up here to extract and replace the stud myself. so i wandered over to a local muffler shop to see if they would do it for me, for a small fee ofcourse.
well they wanted $280!!!! :eek1: :eek1: Said that they won't do just one, but would replace all three....um no thanks.
than he sat there trying to sell my a set of stainless headers..said that he could get me the headers installed, with a new y-pipe, for "about $1,800 out the door)...$1,800 for headers installed? are you crazy? what the heck are you smoking? he then went on to say that he could redo my whole exhaust from headers to exhaust tips for (about $2,600 out the door) :eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

wow, and all i needed was a broken stud extracted, and my exhaust is already new, well about 3 months old, from manifold to the exhaust tips, includeing new cat, and super 40, and 3 inch pipe..and i only paid $560 for everything (out the door) in California...

    ok, done venting.. :D

    1800 for headers, i'll show him 1800........crazy @$##@%!.. :haha:

Yee haw... I had a full custom dual setup put in my Dodge maybe 10 years ago, and it was like $180 (I helped and knew a few people, but still)...

I think this guy was probably just trying to push it as far as he could to see if you'd bite or try to talk him down.

he probably didn't want to do it. Its a pain in the ass. Figure an hour job. $60 an hour, cheap parts, in the end, it wasn't worth it to him most likely. Or he rapes people on jobs... what kind of area are you in?

me thinks you just went to the wrong place. When I got my custom y-pipe bent up at Punks (here in vancouver) I got new flanges/gaskets all around, and a bolt-on flange added to the pipe just in front of my cat (so i could pull just the y-pipe if needed and leave everything else in place) and everything came to just over $100. Labor wasn't that expensive, considering that they ended up bending the y-pipe and then rebending it so tuck it up a little higher. Parts for everything came to almost $40... so the shop rate couldn't have been toooo high.

yeah the plates might have something to do with it, lol
but his big thing that he kept on "pushing" was that it was all "stainless, lifetime warrenty"...

but still, its a 4x4, that gets used as a 4x4, who in their right mind would pay 1800 for a set of headers on a 4x4?
