alcoholic if you drink by yourself? discuss
No, it just means you don't have friends
On a serious note, I work a swing shift usually which is from 1430-2300 M-F. When I get home the wife and kids are a sleep and Daddy gets to kick back relax and drink a few cold ones before I go to bed. I really enjoy a few beers after work and watch a little TV on the Tivo.
I get up around 0730-0800 everymorning with the kids while my wife goes to work or school, depending on the day. I am never hungover or draggin ass due to the 4-5 beers I had the night before. I don't drink around my kids, well not till close till there bed time on my days off.
Technically Uncle Sam, my employer would probably diagnose me as an alcoholic. I do not need to drink, I LIKE to drink
I don't go out to bars or clubs to drink. Usually if I ever drink outside of the home it is at my Buds house around the corner working on our rigs. When I was in my early 20's I would have said I probably had a problem. Now that I am older (28) I find it easier to say hey i'm buzzin pretty good, I think I will call it a night
ahh yes uncle sam's defintion dosent really count
and i agree in my early 20's i drank more alcohol than any man should
Oh yea, to answer your question, No I don't think you are an alcoholic if you drink by yourself.
Or don't want 'em, I guess you cyber fellers is ok though...Well until I find the right meds to get you all outta my head...
I'll have a few by myself late at night while surfing here...not usually more than two and not usually more than twice a week though. I have a much bigger problem with coffee than I do alcohol. I need coffee, I can do without alcohol.
I've known alcoholics... There's more to it than just having a few drinks by yourself, even if it's every day of the week... It's probably a fine line, though. I'm sure there are some alcoholics out there who don't drink heavily, but just a couple drinks a night...
In short, drinking alone doesn't make you an alcoholic
drinking alone make you a drunk
alcoholic's are drunks who goto meetings.
nah, I used to drink by myself all the time. When I started getting kidney stones the Doc said "if you drink a lot, cut it back some".... I quit instantly. I'll have a mouthfull of my wife's hard lemonade like once every 6 months, and thats it. I'm not suggesting I had an iron will or anything... just that lone-drinking doesn't automatically result in alcoholism. I had zero problems quitting.
Ding ding ding,,, we have a winner....
i you need to, have to or just really want ( what every you want to say)
a drink every day (even one) your an alcoholic.
i belive that is the deffanition.
Well, I guess I'm an alcoholic, then. I do my best to have at least one drink a day..........
Oh well. The way I see it, I've earned the right to enjoy myself when I see fit. I lived REALLY lean for a lot of years, scrimping and saving to make ends meet. I'm finally at a point in my life where I have money leftover at the end of the month, and I choose to use it to buy things that I enjoy, including booze.
If coming home from work and pouring myself a White Russian makes me a boozer, so be it. I'm happy and relaxed and that's all that matters.
I never drink alone. Usually I'm in the company of good ol' Mr. Jack Daniels and sometimes Johnny Walker drops by too.
If you wake up with an empty glass/can in your hand, wearing nothing but your underwear, 3 days in a row-you're an alky!!!!
Crap, I thought that I was a sophmore then. Now I know.
Same here. Usually a beer or two, or maybe a mixed drink when I get home. rarely more than a couple unless I have absolutely nothing to do the next day. I don't think that its a problem at all, nor do I stress when there is no beer here.
I think you've nailed it on the head with this comment, brother. I couldn't care less if there's no booze in the house at any given time. If I feel like having a drink and I open the cupboard and realize that it's empty, it's not like I run to the store and buy a bottle immediately.
If you can't stand the thought of an empty liquor cabinet, and get stressed when you pour the last shot in the house into a glass, I'd say you have a problem.............
Yeah sometimes its a quick trip to likker stoe or I kill everybody in the house but mostly i aint sweatin it...The boys arent too bad but when our daughter lived here,,, OMG i needed a whiskey I.V. just to cope...girls... You poor bastard Paul 3 against one....Bwahahahahaha!!!!
