ok guys, first i have to tell you that i LOVE accuracy. especially at long ranges. and if youve been following my last thread, you know that i want something semi auto.

could someone tell me some advantages / disadvantages about AR-15's, AK-47's, and SKS's?

Define long range. All 3 of the weapons you list are designed for a relatively short range cartridge.

    A better choice would be a FN/FAL or a Garand or M14.

M4, accurate out to 600m, super accurate out to 250-300m. When I was shooting often we would use ketchup packets and golfballs as 100m tagets. If you are looking at long range (500+Meters) then I would recommend a m14, or model 700 in 308 or 3006.

    Isnt the 700 bolt-action only?

If you are looking for real accuracy, the bolt is the way to go, if you want "shoot and hit big targets" then get a fun gun (m4,sks, ak style).

It was a bugger to hit a pop up target a 300 with a M16 more of a luck shot if anything

    Lots of differences between those:

AR:most expensive($650and up), most accurate, with a full length you can reach waaay out (think 500 yds), a little more picky with ammo choice, 20-40 round mags & loads of accessories and upgrades out there.

AK: cheaper ($300and up), fairly accurate to 200-300, will eat any ammo, 20-40 round mags & lots of accessories.

SKS: cheapest ($129and up), more accurate than AK (mostly a function of length) but not as much as the AR, eat any ammo, attached mags (some up to 30) that prevent quick reloading also lots of accessories.

All good choices though, every home should have one of each.

Semi auto ballistic sniper rife... HK PSG1 or for those us without the cash, get a (real, not repro) HK G3. integrated bi pod, claw mount scope, .308 semi auto. standard mag holds 20 rds, 30s are available.

i got one and i love it. also have an AK. ARs are really nice but kinda soccer mom style. AK's you can pack full of mud, run over with a crew cab dually and still shoot 1000 rds out of it without a failure. mind you, only for a couple hundred yards. SKS are brush guns and terrible in my opinion.

if you really really want super accuracy, go remington 700. yes its a bolt action but its the standard sniper rifle for a reason for many LEO.

How come no one likes the M1 Garand? More range than an M14.

yep, great gun and I'd love to have one, but they're expensive both in acquisition price and price to shoot.

I had an SKS that was super fun. Cheap to buy and shoot.

and you can toss it in the bed of the truck and who cares if you ding it up. It'll still shoot like a banshee forever.

I just thought of a cheaper alternate. Druganov. Shot a captured Russky issue one years go. Just a lengthened SKS action, but this one would print some fine groups.

Yep, here's your answer. The Dragunov. This is the creation of a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 Sniper rifle and an AK-47 makin' love after getting drunk.

It uses the ammo from the mosin (7.62x54R) which is larger than a .308, but can be hard to find yet still cheap. Also it functions just like an AK-47, semi-auto.

    Lastly, they look simply awesome!

The FN FAL is also a good choice, but a bit heavy.
