At last!!! I\'m gonna buy a Blazer K5...

    Hi all,

I would really appreciate if someone can help me out with this, I'm about to go to Germany (I'm in London UK) to buy a 1979 Cheyenne K5 but I need to get info about what the differences are with the 'Cheyenne' and the normal K5 models.

Here are the pix of the K5 I hope to buy...

I should be getting some pix of the interior tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Easy question for you guys out there.... coz I don\'t know,

Cheyenne is a trim level, like Scottsdale or custom deluxe. If i recall correctly the Cheyenne was the more basic model as far as convenience options went and the Scottsdale was the middle of the pack with the silverado being the top line model. As far as mechanical's went there is no appreciable difference.

The 79 looks to be in very nice shape! Good luck!

cheyenne was the top of the line for its time. cheyenne was the "silerado" before silerado came along. it was top of the line trim level w/power windows and such as an option. go to slosh.com and look up the 79' blazer sales brochure for better details. if you go ang get it be sure to send me pics, i have a 79' cheyenne. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif /forums/images/icons/wink.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I'd be more focussed on the body. Mechanically they are easy to fix and parts availabilty even in Europe shouldn't be bad. Check the floors at the rear of the truck under the carpet, same with front floors. Check the lower mount point for the front seat belts, the mounts closest to the botom of the door tend to rot in that area. Check for obvious signs of plastic body filler like over the wheelwells, under the doors, and the lower corners of the front fenders.

Mechanically the tranny fluid if it is an automatic should be a strawberry red and not smell burnt at all. Check the underside for any visible leaks. Start it up and watch for any blue smoke...some blue at start up is common and not really serious, but it should clear up in a few seconds. Any blue smoke for longer than that and the motor may be quite worn. Listen for any ticking or knocking while it's warming up.

The drivetrains in these trucks are pretty reliable though, so I wouldn't be all that concerned if it seems to run and drive fine.

Re: Easy question for you guys out there.... coz I don\'t know,

if ya look at what i typed, power was still an option, where as with most of your silerado packages of newer vehicles, power was standard. check out the slosh web site i mentioned and the section on our year will fill you in. btw, when i got my blazer, it was all power, but the stuff either worked half-assed or not at all so i converted everything over including the door panels. you'd never tell x-cept the rear window switch is still on the dash ! maybe a former owner did the same to yours, or the original owner chose cheyenne trim package w/o all power option ?

    I just found out that it's a 2WD (C10) model /forums/images/icons/frown.gif but I guess I don't need a 4WD (K10) /forums/images/icons/confused.gif I'm not gonna be off roading too much in it... well not hard off roading /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

    Hmmmmm....

I never even noticed the 5 lug wheels...

Those are cool to though...you can always make a pre-runner type truck with a 2WD. Ask Michael in the 2 wd forum and check out his project...it's wicked!

Here is a link to the pictures of the Blazer...

    http://idisk.kianoush.com/blazeringermany.html

I got an email from the guy about the condition last night and it sound pretty cool still, it is a 2WD but I'm not gonna be off roading in it too much, besides there arn't too many hills that can do that in anyhow here in London /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

    Here is the email...

    Hallo!
Here my merciless partiell "mangle" photo-reporting:

    new goodrich-tires in the front

    left side

    right side

    at the back

    typical Blazer rust (right side),
    left less than right side

damage to the paintwork at tailgate

    faultless engine

here without seats, but with mud :-(

In the frontwindow is a little split, with the right insurance-police in Germany no problem.
But I had just the stanard insurance, but it doesn´t bother me.

Is there any big or small rust on it?
If there is rust where it it?
You can find a little bit rust at the underside edge from the doors. But no typical rust at the footroom, the
substance is good! No big rust!!

Is it the original 4 wheel drive + 2 wheel drive Cheyene model?
    2WD Cheyenne

How many owners has it had?
I´m the fourth owner in this letter since ´91, before ??

    Does it have LPG?
    What´s that?

Have you done any work on the engine?
No work at the engine, just headers and since 2 months a new Edelbrock carburetor(?), no tuning!
Absolutly liquid motor! New motoroil, transmission-fluid incl. filters, new patrol- and airfilters.

    Is the back window electric?
    Yes, it is.

    regards
    Ben
