At what point do you throw your hands in the air and say \'SCREW IT\'?

I won't go into a long, drawn-out account of my poor luck until this point; let's just say I have had enough turns for the bad that I am ready to open the garage doors, sell all my trucks and related parts, and give it up. No matter what I do right now (finding parts, installing what I have, etc.), it goes wrong, doesn't come close to working, whatever the individual case may be. One of the rigs I have is *supposed* to be my DD, but it is so far from any status like that, I can't even see the end. When do you just say '**** it all'? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

after 4 days- and 36 total hours tied up in my brake lines....i was more than ready...............BUT then I started going through reciepts for the truck, and relized I have way to much money dumped into it to give up now.......worst part, my new calipers have been sitting on my rear seat for 2 weeks now......I'm sure it wont be an easy swap with those etiher!

Dont feel as though its only you....there has not been 1 thing with my truck that has gone the way it was suppose to.....except for the stuff I PAID someone else to do.....which brings me to another thought.....should I just hire me a mechanic......that would work..

When frustration REALLY sets in Ill sit back and try to remember how much time and money I have tied up in PI, then Ill look at how much I can get out of it IF I could sell it. Puts things in perspective when you realize your in WAY over your head and will NEVER get a return on it. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Oh and then think about having to go thru it all again since you know you will. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

For me, it's always been that I get to the point off saying **** it all, then something goes right and it's all worth it then !!!!!!

Just re-group... grab the truck thats closest to running and put all the best parts on it. Once you hear that nice Chevy noise, you'll get out of that funk. Too many projects at once wears ya down.

I get nervous when things go easy...because then I know for sure I'm forgetting something important, or doing it wrong.

Re: At what point do you throw your hands in the air and say \'SCREW IT\'?

Last Summer I was putting shingles on my hot tub gazebo. I was holding the roofing nail between my thumb and forefinger ready to "tap" it in with my 32oz Estwing framing hammer. I drew the hammer back and WHACK!!! the head of the nail ripped the hide off the inside of my thumb and forefinger as it went flying past and the hammer stopped after they (aforementioned thumb and forefinger) were both nice and flat.

    I threw the hammer.....

After half a bottle of peroxide and a couple of bandaids, some beer and a little teasing from my wife I was at it again (After I found the stupid hammer). By now I had a couple of real nice blood blisters on my two fingers, one on the inside where I hold the nail.

    Time to drive another nail.

Holding nail between thumb and forefinger just like the manual says to do and WHACK!!!.

This time just before the hammer crushed my fingers the nail went in and ripped the newly formed blood blister off on it's way by.

    I threw the hammer.

I used to be a framer a while back, built many houses and never even got so much as a splinter. Now I have achieved all of the necessary parameters for two trips to the ER within half of an hour doing something I have done without injury a billion and a half times. Twice in a row!!

    I said **** it.....................

Re: At what point do you throw your hands in the air and say \'SCREW IT\'?

I have a broken front axle, engine on its last legs, and had the electrical harness light itself on fire last week. I'm still going tho. I've got the wireing harness in the back seat of my other truck, a 454, with a stack of new parts, ( including cam, heads, intake, etc), and I figgure a new axleshaft can't cost me too incredibly much.

I'm going to assume my wireing harness install is going to be a 7 hour install give or take, just from the estimation that it took me 3 hours to pull it from the parts truck, ( including the steering column)

    oh well,
with luck the damn thing'll stop trying to burn itself down, and the tired 350 will last another couple months.

LOL! You don't hold roofing nails like that. With the palm of your hand facing in an upwards position you put the nail (pointy end down) between your index and middle finger about an inch from the end of your finger tips and give it a whack. This works very well for any type of short nail.

As far as giving up on trucks, if it weren't for sources like the ones on this website, I would have given up a long time ago. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
