Attention! 87-92 mustang drivers*** UPDATE*** I\'m Topless

I know this should go in other rides but not a lot of traffic there and I need some input.......
I an seriously considering buying a 87 mustang LX Convertable.
5.0 HO engine, 5 speed man trans,2.72 posi rear. Power everything.
The car runs good is in good shape with a new convertable top. It is a little rocket ship.
140000 miles on the clock with a valve job and timing chain at 130,000 For sale by the orginal owner for $3000.
I have always liked those years of Mustang (must be the Mad Max in me)
If you have any experience or know anything about these cars please respond good or bad.
Please no Ford slams /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I know chevy is better /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
But I rember when these little cars came out in 87. They were kicking ass on the stock Birds and Camaros.
I may be buying this car tonight if things go OK and I dont hear too many bad things... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Thanks

I know this goes against everything I believe in, but a mustang with a good exhaust is one of the sweetest sounds ever. I know those cars can be made to get some serious power, and if you lighten the car up, it could be a monster. I'd double check, I thought the LX came with a 4 banger...might wanna run the VIN to make sure you're not getting someone's failed Mod.

The LX 5.0 coupe was actually the desirable one, it didn't come with 300 lbs of plastic bolt on garbage that the GT had, so it was actually faster. IIRC the 87 is also one of the most desirable years, they had more power than the other years or something. They were the [naughty word] in the early 90s, but you won't be winning very many stoplight races with the extra weight of the convertible and 140k on the clock. Not to mention that there are probably minivans now that are faster than an old 5.0. Detroit just keeps makin everything faster and faster... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

yeah, I'm not a ford guy LOL.
I know they can be made fast...I've seen 'em chirp 3rd as they were leaving me WAY behind. Of course, i didn't have my bike...my bike eats Mustangs for lunch.

Not a bad car, but I'd buy a Trans Am or Formula 350 TPI over any Mustang. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

'87's (especially rag tops) are nice. The rag tops are heavier, though. 5.0 LX's are more desirable than the GT (less garbage). Sounds like a good catch to me. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

A very good friend back in Omaha has a 89 5.0 LX Stang convertable. I'm a Chevy guy through and through, but those 5.0 LX Convertables are alot of fun to drive.

Even My Wife likes it. She was not happy about the deal at first. She thought I was having a mid life crisis thing /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
But after cruising around in it yesterday, she likes it. And gave me a /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif on the deal.
She Says "It makes a fine lttle grocery getter"LOL.
I cant believe I'm driving another Ford. I'm sure my tools will get more use now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a 92... one word of advice... watch it on the corners especialy if it is wet.
I have spun out several times so far with no damage except for the donut holes in the seat.
My buddy just spun out in his 89.. 70 mph into a tree. The tree won.
Other than that lil problem it is an ok car.

Yeah I know they can get away from you.
If the control arm bushings in the rear are bad it makes things real bad when its wet. They are prolly gonna be the first thing I do to mine.Everythings OE back there.

You might have to put a CK5 sticker on it in order to offset the negative Ford vibes.
