77MudBuddy used to run 35's and 3.08's. His TH350 would run pretty hot on the hiway as result. He just finished the upgrade to 4.88's though so smooth sailing now. I drove his truck before the upgrade and after and the difference is amazing, to say the least. the 3.08's were not unbearable as a driver, though you better watch that tranny... especially if it is a 700 with no aftermarket cooling!!!!

that's the same cooler I have on my 700. it stays at 150 on the hiway and I'm running 35's and 3.73's. Which isn't much better than what your gonna be running i'm sure.

I bought my tranny from 700r4.com (bowtieoverdrives) and they told me it should run 30-50 degrees cooler than the motor. 150 was the target temp they gave me to work toward. No wheeling is something different. The tranny has a tendency to come up to the motor temp since there is not enough air moving across the cooler. Both fans going and I can get the motor just under 190 on the rocks, so that's about where the tranny will sit too. Full throttle runs in the mud is a different story. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

keep in mind also, the temperature we are talking about is the cooled liquid in the pan. Some people run the sending unit in the pressure tap on the driver side of the case. The reading there would be much higher as this is on it way to the cooler.

the tech at 700r4.com is who told me to install mine sending unit in the pan, and to shoot for 150. and I'm sure that chart is giving temps of the cooled fluid.

I've ran 32" Wrangler AT's on 10bolts and 3.08's for 3 years (9months of that was 600miles a week, over 47K miles on these tires in 3years). No major complants, highway is cool, top speed is about 75-80 though. I'm in the process of 4.10's and 35's in the 10bolts (its only a DD). /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: attention people with 3.08 and 33\'s

I've got a bowtie overdrive 700R4. I'm running in Drive only with the 454, 33's, and 3.42's. About to switch to 5.13's. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif In anticipation of getting 37's.

Mine runs about 160*. Unless I get on it then it heats quickly to about 200*. I've got a cooler and 10" fan, but I need to put on my B&M HD cooler. That should seperate the temps a little from the engine, I hope.

Hey Aaron, I guess your 10" fan is mounted to the tranny cooler? does it turn off on the hiway, or do you have a switch? that may help a bit. I thought you were going to get the B&M installed before you got the sub back on the road? what does your motor run at now? did you get that sorted out?

hmm chevy4wd has a 700r4, 33s and had 3.08s until recently and his truck screamed..maybe its that stock 350 he had /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but it wasnt that unbearable to drive or ride in, and mine with 3.42s and 33s is not bad at all but of course with a 4 spd i imagine its slightly better..

I've got 3.08 and 33s, but I've also got an SM465. Wheels decently and drives decently too. Who knows, it may have something to do with the 305 or the transmission. Anyway, my hiway ride bother me, but I'm still wanting lower gears and bigger engine.

My brother has 37's and 3.08's on his 79 with 350 and TH350 with no trnsmisison cooler. He has been running this for about 8 months now, DD, and four wheeling. Its not too bad really, just takes a lot to get it movig. The transmission is starting to suffer though.
------Hey, does anybody know if the HD Transmission Cooler from Summit is any good? I was thinking about getting it for my Th700, which will have 37's under it and 4.56's. Thanks.
