Just thought I should let you guys know about a bit of legislation that got tacked onto the emergency spending bill resulting from the 9-11 attacks. It basically opens the door for the gov't to demil all surplus equipment, from CUCV's to canteens, that you already own. So if you like seeing that CUCV in your driveway, that old M1 Garand in your collection, or even that nice restored J**P in the parade, check this out. It can be viewed at www.bigelectric.com under the Senate Bill 1416 post.

I seriosly doubt that any K5 or old jeep could be considered a weapon.
Now if you had a 60's era tank in your back yard under a tarp then I think that they might want it back.
And as for all the Garand owners it would be next to impossible to know who has one .

Anybody else find it kind of frightening that legislation like this would pass the day after a massive national disaster, when everyone is still in shock, but never under normal circumstances?
Talk about taking advantage of opportunity's knock...

Trucks and Jeeps are safe - I believe this is more aimed toward the collector with a Sherman tank in his backyard. I'm also pretty sure that they'll leave Garands alone (they better leave mine alone) since they are pretty much archaic, and have been considered a small arm for years, not "significant military equipment"

Special thanks to those lost from IAFF Locals 94 and 854 - You shall never be forgotten

This bill isn't just written for weapons. It includes things that have a "uniquely military capability" This may include things like the ability to blackout drive (like on CUCV's, Military Jeeps, etc.) Thats what makes this so scary, is that it's left up to the politicians to decide what they want to demil. I really think we should take this more seriously.
