Sorry if this is a repost.... But Yesterday I saw an Avalanche. I saw it from the side and at first thought how ugly is that thing... I hate these long cab short bed things they are making now. I thought it was like that new Nissan that looks like a truck that wants to be a car but can't make up it's mind... But anyhow when I got closer I realized it was a Chevy.... the whole bottom was plastic! The bumpers were plastic looking too. And it had this plastic cab spoiler on it... I hope I don't offend anyone who has one but good golly it was ugly! These newer plastic trucks are scaring me! Yikes![IMG]

I stopped to look at one up close.. man those things are sharp.. so what about the plastic... it's only a matter of time before someone makes some nice fender flares for it.. that match the body better..
But that mid-gate thing.. sweet !!!!! and the Z-71 package avalanche is tough as hell.. saw one sitting next to the Dodge Ram 1500 Off-road version.. and the avalanche towered over it..
I can over look the plastic .. the features on that truck are what makes it worthwhile..

I've seen two so far, they are ugly pieces of plastic. But for even worse, I saw a new Heep Liberty today. What the heck are these designers smoking? Just wondering if the owner saw the look of disgust on my face over the trashing of a once descent vehicle.

"The Avalanche 2500 is the Avalanche you want when your needs are a little bit bigger. An 8100 V8 SFI engine delivers more horsepower than V10 engines from Ford and Dodge.(1) It delivers 340 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque to help with your biggest loads. The Avalanche 2500. It makes quite a powerful statement. "

And yet it still sucks. More power than a V-10? How big is the gas tank? Bet you wouldn't want to pass up a gas station in that thing.

    2002 Avalanche.

We had/sold one last week, They are basicly the same as a silverado, just different sheet metal. 5 doors, 4 full sized front doors, one doorish thing going to the bed, that open up and leads to a way-short bed. It has a more modern look, sharper edges and body lines, kinda computer image look. It reminds me of the old Elcominos, with 4wd. It has cool stogage compartments in the bed sides that are lockable with the ign. key. And comes with a factory tanu cover that fitts tightly. The only thing I saw that really made me ill was the fake embroyderd (s/p?) bow-tie on the leather seats.

personaly, I thinks its about time Chevs steped out with something as edgy as the Avalanche, Chevrolet has always played the "safe" rout with cars and trucks that are solid, but not really ground braking. Playing it safe can only go so far.
I drive alot of newer stuff, mostly from G.M., but also some from Ford, Dodge, Toyota, LandRover, etc. I think G.M. products (-in generall-) are just flat-out better. Not to say they lead the pack in every catagory, far from it. They just put out a product with some thought. Unlike some of the others, (over-head camed engines in a truck! - WTF, in a car O.K., but a truck???)

Dodge changed the hole truck market when they came out with the "semi-truck" look, those things were wickid, far from the norm- at the time. But now, take a look around! Once again, as Chevroltes have always done, they followd the leader with (IMO) a better product. Followiing the leader is something G.M. has a nack for doing, they did it with the camaros, a reply to the mustangs, they did it with the Blazers, a reply to the Scouts and Broncos. The Corvette (G.M.'s flag ship) was a reply to the Thunderbird (I think, I might have that one mixed up, not sure)
    -So-
The Avalanche is yet another reply to someone elses "ground braking" idea, And yet again, they did it better.

Hopefully the Aztec will be the only thing of its kind...I heard the dealers have to hide them behind the other cars so no one can see them...

    Very well said Twiztid...
The Avalanche is very edgy and cutting edge..
Just like the new GMC Teradyne that's coming out...
This is very close if not the exact "Concept" truck at the auto shows... My hat's off to Chevrolet..
As for Chevrolet Silverado's.. all versions.. especially my 99 pickup.. that thing rides so nice.. has so much power and very comfortable.. The new Chevy interiors are very well thought out and the placement of everything is perfect.
I'd buy a new Avalanche in a heartbeat.. maybe in a few years.. tell you what though..
The Avalanche is sure drawing lot's of attention !!!!

Take all the plastic off, and it would make a killer Pre-Runner.

I'll tell my Aunt you said "The only thing I saw that really made me ill was the fake embroyderd (s/p?) bow-tie on the leather seats."
She is the seamstress for the interiror (sp) design part of GM. She would have been the one to put that logo on the prototypes (under orders from her boss of course) hahaha.

I figure that it is not intended to wow real off-roaders. More like the mall Jockey HEEP losers. I call this the Exterra syndrome. This is where anyone is impressed by a yellow truck that wouldnt last 2 min off-road. With the ground clearance of a stock HEEP on 31's. And comes with a built in first aide kit to save their poor wittle pinkies from the bad bad paper cut they got from their starbucks coffee holder. Wayne and I saw one at Carlisle and I was content with it. This is not to say it has its own small purpose, it just looked cool for something from the factory. Teradynes are BAD A$$.
