On my way to work this morning... Look down and my volt gauge is dropping like a fly... my stereo cuts off and all.. so I decide to turn around and head home... I almost make it home and the blazer starts spitting and sputtering. I didn't make it quite home but I'm close. So I'm thinking maybe the alternator? The belt was squeling pretty bad when I cranked it this morning, and I didn't check to make sure the belt was still there... had to hurry home and call my boss [IMG]. So now I'm getting ready to go back out there and see what I can do. BTW as soon as it stalled I tried to crank her and she had no juice what so ever. Any simple things I should look for because it showed no other warning signs... it just all the sudden failed.

Sounds like a classic alternator problem, make sure the belt is tight or even still there, if they are pull the alt and have it tested.

Yeah, alternator. When it went, you were running off battery alone for as long as it would hold. When it, too, went, you stalled. That's why you had no juice to crank it again.

Once you get your alternator issue fixed, you will need to deal with the battery. If it's new or relatively young, it will probably recharge fine. If it has some age on it, it could be shot as well. When you get your alternator checked, also get the battery checked to make sure it will still hold a charge.

It was the alternator or nuclear war. Probably the alt.

IS it a internal voltage regulator or a external voltage regulator.
you might want to replace that if it is not the allternator. Test your alternator and if it turns out bad then replace the voltage regulator.

Well I just got it home... The belts were nice and snug... I reckon I need to take it off and have them test it for me. I had to get the wife to jump me... I let it sit for about 15 minutes. That was enough to get me home at least.

  9. Easy test. Jump start the truck, then unhook one of the battery leads at the battery. If it dies, it's the alternator.

I'll give that a go... a lot easier then taking it out and taking to Advance for testing.
