the piece in the rear end should be replacable. not sure where to get it, the dealer might be discontinued. It might thread in or push in, not sure. I don't know what the stamp means.

if you use a tap, put grease on the tap to hold the shavings.

OK I know this is a totally noob question, but what is a TAP? is this something used to rethread the hole? I'm still trying to learn as I go.

Just make sure, if you do this, that no metal shavings are left behind inside the differential.

Got it, thanks I'll have to try this. Belive it or not I discovered that my front axel is also missing the breather connector and tube. I have to wonder what the PO was thinking or what he was doing to the truck.

Considering both vent tubes missing, have you opened the covers or checked the condition of the gear oil? Just a thought.

With this thought in mind, put a rag over the top of the gears to catch the shavings.

Yes, I have opened both covers and replaced the fluids and checked all the gears. They seem to be OK; there was no debris in the housing. I found the missing breather tube when I was rechecking the fluid level.

I live over in Circle Cross Ranch

Thanks to all that helped me with this issue. I went to Checkers and Picked up a tap set and two connector tubes (Forget what they called them) and $23 later the problem is solved. Thanks again for those who lent an ear and helped me with the problem....I'm sure I'll have lots more questions in the future.:D
