i just scored a set of axles for my 89 1/2 ton suburban.
Rear is a corp 14 bolt ff, with 4:10 front is dana 44 with matching 4:10
currently i have a 10 bolt front and rear, i know the rear is better, but what about a dana 44 as opposed to a 10 bolt?

wait a sec... why is the rear 10 bolt "better" than (presumably) the front? the front corp 10 bolt is pretty much identical in strength to the d44. both have 8.5" ring gears, similarly sized axle shafts etc. also, if any 10 bolt "sucks" its the rear version. semi-floating + lil c-clips = bound to break.

i think he was saying that the 14 bolt he got is better than his existing 10 bolt rear.

Summary: Except for the early 10 bolts, it's pretty much a wash.

It's been a while but this was covered about 2-3 times a week in the past. Exact details of how they compare are in the archives. It's all in the search...
