My next upgrade on my truck will be a beefy rear end. I have a 90' Suburban 1/2 ton w/ 10 bolts front and rear. I want a 3/4 ton axle in the rear, but I dont know what one to get, does anybody know what year range and type of truck w/ the 3/4 ton axle that will bolt on? I am going to try an upgrade the 6-lug to and 8-lug up front also(is that possible?). Is there any way to strengthen the front axle?

A 14 bolt corporation will bolt in. That is the axle that comes in the 3/4 subs and trucks. There are 2 versions of it...semi float and full float. Which means the SF is similar to what you have now, the axle shafts are load bearing, (the weight of the rig is supported by the axle shafts) A FF the housing is load bearing and the axle shafts just turn the hubs. The FF is the stronger of the 2. The 14 SF is a stronger axle than what you have w/ the 10 bolt, but the FF if bomb proof! Axles in 1 tons duallys (not sure about single wheel 1 tons) have different spring pads and shock mounts and will need to be moved. Van axles are wider than trucks Burbans and Blazers.

The front axle upgrade is a super hot topic (esp lately it seems) try a search. Also go to the technical pages in CK5, there is an article about it. It is for a Dana 44 but the parts for the most part interchange. There is a difference between early and late versions and the article gets into that I think.

    Hope that helps. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

How in the world did you manage that?

BTW I used to live in Ma. (I moved to Fla when I was 13.) Isnt Worcester on the east side of the state? I lived in a little town near Holliston and Bellingham.

I like the location under the name thing. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

You must have had a fluke. My buddy ran a 14 FF w/ a serious 454, 4 speed, and 44s. When the mood struck him he would lite up the tires on the road. Thats why I was so surprised that you broke one. I do have to say wiping out the cast housing was a nice touch. Quality carnage. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I havent been back to Ma. since I was 14 or 15. That was 16-7 yrs ago. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif Boy that makes me feel old! I prob wouldnt even recognize the town I grew up in anymore.

Most of the problems I've seen in 14b ff are when the "gov-loc" blows up.

I only got a 10 bolt in the rear of my burban and even after I broke 3 drive shafts and wasted the input yoke, its still holding up great. I think I need to get bigger tires.
