axle width measurements

Discussion in 'OffRoad Design' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Jan 8, 2001.

I was wondering what a stock axle's width is:
    14 bolt/10.5"
    D44 front K5/15
D60 front K25/35 non dually rims

    thanx if you have em!!

  1. I have a dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear on my garage floor and they measure; 69" flange to flange on the dana 60; 67" flange to flange on the 14 bolt rear. I dont know the dana 44 as its in my other shed. Would have to run over and measure later.

We've found the 6 lug fronts are 67 1/2" and the rears are about 64 1/2" I think?
    Thanks

A rear 10 bolt is 3" narrower than the front 10 bolt/Dana 44 and a 14ff is 2" narrower than the front, but a 14ff (maybe a 12) from a GM van is somewhere around 1" wider than the front 10/44.

  4. It would waste the effort to put in a 6 lug(semi-float) 14 bolt in. The point is to eliminate breakage. From what i've seen the semi-float has a 9.5 or 9.75" ring gear and smaller axle shafts. I still have to narrow both by 6".

I had a semi floater in my blazer until the pinion bearing let go.
Later when I rebuilt it for my stock truck I had a chance to look at everything. The ring gear is 9.5 the shafts have 30 splines (same as the 14 FF). and i'm pretty sure the shaft dia. is the same. The one I have has 8 lugs. I think the light duty 2500s that came out in 87 would have the six lugs, normal 2500s had 8 lugs and 3500 14 FF 8 lug.

If anybody is interested the width of a van FF 14bolt from a SRW C30 is 70" flange to flange, and you will be moving the spring pads( 50 1/2" ) You can probably pick one up for less than the price of wheel spacers and have piece of mind when hooking up your 2000lb trailer with a 6000lb wheeler on it!
