If you are in Phx or Glendale i'll be working on the 79 this sunday...i have all the factory manuals so if you want to take a peek at what was required in 78 your more than welcome...otherwise it will take me some time to grab the manual and scan a copy of the emission system for 78...

If it did not come originally with smog equipment, you will pass emissions visiual inspection, but the smog test is up to you. If you fail the first time they will give you an extra 30 days to correct, so if your in a rush just go down and fail the first one. It gives you idea where to start making adjustments.

It also depends on which motor came in that one. Before '78 they did have Cats on Blazers. But in '78 if the Blazer had a 400 in. motor (like mine did) it came from the factory without Caton them and no other smog except a PVC valve. Good luck.

They still test all years, but they do not look under the hood for 72 and older. Back in those days no one was concerned with air quality.

Hum, I wonder if they are doing like Calif. taking my money. I have a 1977 Blazer and "they" said it must be tested.
I think you are worng about the 15 year rule, its like 1967 and newer need the testing in AZ.
If you can post a web site, why don't you read it ?
