yea i have real bad luck with these damn things, this will be my fourth one, I cant decide on whether to hunt in the nickle ads and the truck trader parts section for a used tranny, or get another Cheap 300-350 dollar rebuild......

oh yea lol, we towed my truck to the highway, and my friend bj cracked a beer, then we went to josh's truck to fix his battery cable. The cops pull up and start givin us [naughty word] about towing my truck with a chain, and then they said that it was kinda Illegal to coast down the mountain to the gas station, etc etc..... Then when they were driving away they saw BJ's beer on my floor board, to make a long story short, two of my friends got Open container tickets... thats about it. both the drivers (me and my friend josh) hadnt been drinking so we didnt get anything /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think 86 or 87 was when GM revamped the tranny.
If ya want an auto I would go for the th400, the 1st gear difference is only 2.48 as compaired to 2.53 .
I'v wheeled both auto and manuals and all I can say is...I can't wait to get the wagon going (SM465!!!)

The 79 Jimmy you saw in my driveway..that was the 2nd time the tranny has been replaced. I toasted one and my brother toasted one.(th350)

    what Tcase do you have???

the th400-208 is the most common.(as far as junkyards would have)

You just have to weight the cost, if you switch trannys you have other things to consider like:

will the t case bolt up?
    with my drivelines work?
extra parts(clutch set up for a 465, TV cable for a 700r(big cooler too!!!)
    drivelines?
time? (when do I want it going again?)

I'm rambling so I'll shut up now /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

yea thats what im thinking, Other stuff that goes with a diff tranny, Im just gonna do the th350, but have a good one built, Cassidy has th350 in his rig, for three years now and hasnt had any trouble. I just have to have a decent one built..... no more cheap ass P.O.S. rebuilds.

Ditto, I've had T350's in every rig including the 75 with a rowdy 454 and never had problems...........

Of course, a nice 4L80E would be the best of all worlds.......... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

if ur gonna have a "decent one build" (ie lots and lots of $$$$$$) why not just get a Carr or Jet th700r4? then you'd have all the beef/reliability u want, and the better 1st/OD. SWs 700 seems to be ok behind his 468...
