Lighten up guys, it's just an internet message board. Sometimes we have some fairly explosive topics (no, I'm not referring to the poop and snuff thread), and different people will have much different approaches. There's no real reason to call anyone names and no real reason to criticize someone's behavior as it relates to thier profession.

In my opinion, this seemingly minor issue is growing out of control, now being in multiple threads. I'd like to suggest it stay in one thread, or in PM's all together. That's just my suggestion, it can be disregarded or it can be considered.

Amen to that! I was starting to wonder if the 'K' in K5 stood for Kindergarten.

Agreed, everybody quit crying. If you can't stand to be a little insulted or have your political beliefs called into question DON'T POST!

I don't see what the big deal about PM's are anyway, that's like calling people who send you unwanted paper mail to complain. JUST IGNORE IT. If you already think them an idiot, why respond at all?

Maybe the same could be said, just don't read their posts if you don't want to read it. I personally don't see anything wrong with a little bickering, its healthy. Just my opinion.

It may be my sick sense of humor, but I have found it all extremly entertaining, and enlightening. I say, exercise your 1st Amendment rights to the fullest, and be prepared for others to do the same. If you post it in a public forum, be prepared. On the same thought, accept other's OPINIONS for what they are, no matter how retarded....

Hence the ignore option, which I exercised in light of the nasty tone both of us brought. I still think it's fun though, I just didn't wanna screw anything up for myself here at CK5, so I dropped it. I LOVE arguing!

I wrote a huge, long and boring reply to that post this morning and then deleted it before posting. Why did I delete it? Because I would have been attacked also. I'm really tired of all the political crap on this board and am about ready to stop coming here altogether because of it.

I love this idea. I think it should be put to use on this board. Or at the very least there should be a seperate forum for all you political crime fighters to gather on so you can pat each other on the back and call everyone else names. Most of you really sound like a bunch of taliban wannabes the way you think yours is the only proper opinion in the world. This is America you know and people are allowed to have thier own opinions. And I don't think this board should be used to chastize people who think differently than you on certain political issues. There are plenty of other forums on the internet made just for you. /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

So why don't you two just shut the hell up and make nice nice with each other or meet out on the street or something. And the rest of you perfect people ought to take your political crap to another board. Other than the political crap, I love this place but it's beginning to get on my nerves... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Um... sorry you didn't like our posts. I guess if I didn't want to read posts about politics, I probably just wouldn't read them, but that's just me. HOWEVER, I kind of like the idea of a a politics only forum, or something. Another board I belong to has a politics forum just for us obsessive arguers (is that a word?). Anyway, looks like me and Backcountry have decided to mutually end our longstanding and friendly relationship, so you won't have to read our posts anymore. That doesn't mean that the rest of us are going to stop talking about the things we wish to discuss in the Lounge, since Steve set it up as a place where members could talk about whatever they want. Hopefully, we won't irritate you too much when we get fired up again.

What irritates me the most is being suckered into a post that seemingly has nothing to do with politics and then finding out it's nothing more than a political bashing fest. You guys seem to think you own the board all by yourselves. There are other people on this forum who may not think the way you do and who don't want to be flamed for giving thier opinion. So again I say either keep the politics in PMs or drop it altogether. At least give your political posts a title that lets the rest of us know it's a political post so we can stay away.... Then maybe I won't be so irritated. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Some people feel the same way about BOTD as you feel about this. I'll tell you what the BOTD defenders say - don't read the post if you don't like the content.

Generally I find myself in some agreement with you Landsmasher, but not this time. I view this site somewhat like a community, or at least a club. There are a wide variety of opinions on just about every subject. Since I've been here, I've seen people argue over shock brands, tire size and brands, synthetic vs. petro, lockers, paint color, vendors, best places to wheel, porn, and yes, even politics. I don't have an problem with anybody taking issue with anybody elses opinion. That's what makes the Internet, and this country, great. I do have an issue when people make it personal and become insulting or derogatory. It is certainly possible to have heated disagreements, while still being a mature adult. When the dust settles, people can still communicate and get somewhat along, even if they have polar opposite opinions. If we restrict every post to a bland, non-offensive, middle-of-the-road, generic post, then nobody gets to know the personalities or expertise of the posters. It's the diversity of opinions that makes this place fun. I come here mainly for the technical info, but also for the entertainment value. Besides, the Internet is really no place for the thin skinned anway.

I say most topics should be fair game in a "lounge". That's what a lounge is for. Call it whatever title you want, but most topics should be outside the realm of wheeling, or technical issues. I'm also a firm believer in the philosophy of not wasting my time reading stuff I could care less about. But I also believe that having a forum for folks to talk about whatever they want is still valuable. If I see a thread title that looks interesting, I dive in. If it looks like something I don't want to read, then I ignore it, same as I do in the technical forums. Now, let's all sit in a circle, shuck off our Birkenstocks, brew up some herbal tea, take off our tye-died t-shirts and beads, hold hands, and sing kumbaya.... /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif ( /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gifHey Z3PR, get your hand off my knee, it's not that kind of "circle"..... /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif)

I agree! Well said! Only one thing that bugs me here.

This is exactly what's been going on. This is the whole reason I normally stay out of the political topics. But when some A hole says he's gonna call someone out, I take a stand.... If he had said the same thing to me I would be trying to get him to meet me somehwere and we could deal with it the old fashion way... People don't realize that they are subject to the same common courteseys here on the internet as in real life on the street. As a matter of fact, they might need to consider using a little more tact here than on the street. People are getting too used to hiding behind thier monitors and slinging mud.

One more thing.... Is this a board for everyone who wheels and is interested in wheeling? Or is it just for conservative Bush loving war mongering hateful republicans? Because that's what it seems like in here. And if that's the way it is, maybe I need to reconsider the next time my membership comes up.

Now I'm going to relax and go have a beer or three and hope that all this garbage is gone the next time I return.

    Larry,

This goes past politics. This is about how a new member came here, wanted to join in on our fun, but then became all high and mighty about his profession and his beliefs and made personal attacks of those who felt like debating him. Basically, an invading troll with nothing better to do. If he wants to come back and drop the pompous ass act, then he's welcomed back, until then he can STFU.

As for the political discussions, I notice that you don't really take part in them. I don't have a problem with that. But in the last week, I've noticed that the ones who don't take part have the biggest problems with them.

I don't know about you, but there are threads that don't interest them, so they don't click on them. It's not that hard to do.

I'm not the oldest fart on here, but I've been using the Internet since back in the day when it was all DOS based text on BBS's. Keyboard flexing has always been an integral part of the culture and it isn't going away any time soon. Having said that, if people want to debate an issue, and even sling some mild mud, I don't give a flying rat's ass. It will never go away as long as we are imperfect humans.

Everybody can't help getting in a little ding now and again. Look at your reply /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Isn't that kind of a slam on one segment of these factions? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif You can't remove completely your biases and opinions from everything and sooner or later people vent, or at least rant. I think it's all healthy to a degree if it isn't too vicious. I consider this along the lines of these moronic celebrities who jump on one bandwagon or another (Dixie Chicks, et al) and use their fame to promote their views. I support their freedom of speech wholeheartedly. Conversely, they should support wholeheartedly my freedom to choose not to spend one penny on their products as a result. If somebody acts the fool here, then you can consider the source from that point on when they make other posts. The beauty of the written word is that it never ever goes away. Somebody can always dredge it up and rub it in a persons face later if need be. It's not like anybody famous would have their indecisions or flip flopping come back to haunt them later would it.........?? /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

As for the "calling out", perhaps our age is showing. I know what that meant in my day. And I too would meet them behind the gym to open up a can o' whoop ass for their consumption. But, that was back when you could have a nice fist fight, mop up the blood afterwards, and the loser could skulk off in embarassment never to shoot off their mouth again. Nowadays it's crisis intervention time with lawyers for both parties trying to sue for injuries, counselors to deal with the emotional distress that some actual physical discomfort caused, and everybody involved gets disciplined. No such thing as a nice butt kickin' after school these days. Maybe calling somebody out now means going to Starbucks, sipping a latte, smoking a chicory cigarette, listening to a couple of poetry readings, and displaying text references, Internet URL's, and UC Berkeley white papers to back up their arguments, shaking hands afterwards and heading off to the holistic save the whales hug a commie for Christ karmacentric aromatherapy tantric treehugging ceremony down at the people's park....

Ya I finally got that in. I just had to dish out a little of it to show you guys how the shoe fits on the other foot. It's not pretty but on this board it's comon place. Again it's why I stay out of the political discussions.

Bubba, I know what you mean and you know what I mean. I do stay away at least on this board because I like the majority of the people on this site even if they don't see eye to eye with me on some things. I don't mean to censor anyone anywhere, it's just not my thing to argue politics on this board. I couldn't keep myself from stepping in on this one though and it's because it irked me so much to watch it go down. Maybe I'm a little too sympathetic some times.

As for staying out of political threads I say again. Please don't hide them. Put it in the title. Don't come up with a cute title just to have it turn out to be a political thread. And just so you guys know who's side I'm on.... Neither side. I think one is a maniac and the other is a fool. So I can't win on any account. That's why I don't try.

Ya I miss the good ol days. Sometimes a good ass kickin is what is needed to prove a point. I've even had a few points proven to me that way a time or two. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif
