Well today I found out that the engine in my 85 K5 is not a 350 but a 305. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Oh well it looks like I need to start looking for a replacement engine really fast. Or get to work and start building my 415 stroker. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif But I first need to sell my 79 K5 with the pontiac 428 init.
Hey SUBFAN you want that 428 its for sale. LOL
    Talk to you all later.

Ouch! Sometimes that happens but that doesnt make it any easier. I think the 415 would fit nicely!

I've seen alot of 305's being passed off as 350's. If you don't know the difference between the two, it's easy too get fooled. I also am intrested in a 415 Stroker. I've got a 100% factory stock 400cid small block under the hood of my old 76 K5. It still runs good, but when the time comes, a 415 Stroker is very tempting. I'm also looking at both a GM crate 502-HT and 383-HT. It all will boil down too what my $$$ is like then.

[/ QUOTE ] Easiest way too tell is too look at the harmonic ballancer. If memory is correct, the one on a 305 is fairly wide, where the 350's is shinnier. It's been awhile sence I've been around a 305, so I could have that backwards.

Dude, don't knock a 305 too bad. If you're going to replace it anyway, run it till it quits. Hell, I've got a 305 in a 2wd Chevy pickup that I CAN'T KILL!!! I've tried everything short of draining the oil and running it. It just takes a beating and comes back for more.

Hey, if its a SBC, it must be a 350, right?

See that all the time with the 78-87 Monte Carlo's. "Stock 350" when there was no such thing. No idea if they swapped a 350 in there, or they really think it's a 350, but it's annoying.

I bet most of the time, if you ask if the motor is original, THEN check that against the VIN number, you will find out if they know what the heck they are talking about.

well...trying to kill an engine just for the hell of it is pretty dumb if you ask me. just run it...if theres nothing wrong with it and you really cant stand it, swap it and sell it to someone who can use it dont f-up a good engine for no reason! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

It's not that I'm TRYING to kill it, it's just that it was a $500 truck that I don't really care if it blows up. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I have gotten WAY more than my money's worth out of it.
