I'm trying to find/determine what base type antenna I should get. Some info. I currently have a Wilson 5k on the truck, but for when I'm sitting someplace, such as at a campsite, I'd like better range, to help direct people in, etc.

I'd like something collapsable into ~6 foot or less sections so I can fit it in the little truck as well as the Suburban. Curious what you guys might have experience with, etc... Also a feature I want is a base I can stand it up with since it'd not be too efficient to make something to mount it to the truck itself... [IMG]

I'd be using a tuned up TR966 as the unit, it's in the truck... Possibly a 250w. amp someday but not in the near future... [IMG]

Final note, this is sort of on a budget, so I'd prefer to keep $$$ down as much as possible...

I wish I could give a good answer, So if I may i'll give you my .02 worth, What you want to do sounds like a lot of work to me I would think you could get about the same result that 250amp kicker low SWR's on your radio even try using side band. It would also depend on where you camp if you camp in a valley I don't think a base ant. would help you'd have to find a high spot to transmit from. I'll have to stop by the CB shop I go to and talk to him I'd like to hear what he would say.

im sure that you know that the kicker only helps with transmit, not receive.if you know where your trying to talk to,you can get some kind of small beam antenna, they point tward where your trying to talk and work well, but only in the direction its pointed to.you might not be able to hear someone 10 feet behind it.or if you just want to go high, you can get an antron 99,or something similar.it comes apart in 3 sections about 6 feet long each.see ya.
