I just bought a spare 454 for my Blazer and on the back is a stamp HI-PERF. What does this signify. It came out of a suburban 1985. Complete for $550.00

just about all chevy 454,s come stamped with that on the block really doesnt mean anything.
550.00 is still a good deal for any 454.

It is complete carb to pan fan to flexplate 45,000 original miles and super clean inside, I figured it meant high performance just didnt notice it on my other 1 in the blazer!

The only true way to tell if it is a four bolt main block is to remove the oil pan. you can check the casting number at Mortec.com. A good buy at 550.00 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Hi-perf is cast into ALL BBC blocks. Nothing special or fancy. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

actually i believe some of the early bb blocks didnt have the hiperf stamped into it. Like the first yrs the hiperf actually meant something. Again, i THINK that is what i found when i was researchin this same thing when i got my block.

    They all say Hi-Perf...

If it says HI-PERFORMANCE PASSENGER. That's another deal.

As long as it doesn't say "MARINE"

Could also say "TRUCK" This is a tall deck. Good for a stroker. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It should be completely spelled out. Basically, you need to double check the casting number. But mostly, there is no difference in the blocks, unless it was aluminum.
