Can anyone recomend the type of bearing press I would need to use on a differential bearings??
If i'm thinking correctly then the style needed looks like one of thoes stand up deals with a bottle jack mounted to it?? Is it??
If so does anyone make a 'bench top' style press that would work for diff bearings and ball joiints???
    Thanks

We have the stand alone type at the shop and it works pretty good ...... if you know somebody good at fabbing you can make one fairly cheap.....

I used a 120$ 12 ton version from Harbour Freight. I needed to get a bigger set of arbor plates than what came with it- they were too cheesy. If you can swing the money, Grainger sells a sweet 16 ton Dayton. Forget the bench top ones with the linear gear- not powerful enough. My .02....

Ya thats what I was thinking!
So what do the plates do?? I assume it's for between your work and the press plate???
Any more thoughts on the style to get or specialty pieces that will make the job smoother???

That's right, the plates support whatever it is you are pushing on. If they aren't set right on the press, and you start crankin....KA..POW...Watch out for flying parts[IMG]. You will need to pick up a big bearing splitter as well for the pinion work.
