this work is her master piece thus far. she finished at about 1:30 this morning - has to turn it in for a final today. she painted on 4 boards and they will be displayed with a bit of space between them. the theme is the depletion of nature, thus the only flowers on the cherry tree which are alive and in color are those on the panel which the bird is on. nature everywhere else (the majority) is dead. i had to use the flash this morning, so the pic isn't that good but...

    here's the bird she painted.

here's the picture she painted from for the bird. i like the bird she painted better. :)

    some other detail:

and a link to a higher-res format of the pic so you can zoom way in and check out the detail. she says she's got about 30 hours into this work. maybe i'll snap some real photos of it when it's mounted somewhere.

shoot... looks like i can't upload a full res. photo to photobucket. anyway,it's phenomenal, take my word for it.

yup, very nice.. She has talent... Send my props to her...

My grandmother used to do wonderful oil painting work.. Have a few here at the house...

I was talking about this the other day with the other painter at work.. If I can tape it off I can do anything... I can do amazing graphics with fineline tapes and have done some very cool Pro Street type projects, lettering, striping, etc...

But put a airbrush in my hand and tell me to paint a horseshead, person, etc and it very well could come out looking like an alien.. :doah: :o :haha: I just don't have that artistic ability.. Tho I do think I could do some freehand flame work, which I'm anxious to try...

That is a very beautiful piece of art. I could never do anything with paint.

I thought the bird was a prebought model and it was some sort of 3D display at first.

She should be very, very proud.

That's awesome Colby....Claire has some real talent there. I can't do anything like that either. My sister got all the artistic talent from our Dad. In fact that's what she does for a living over in Seattle

looks good Colby, i wish i had that kind of talent with a paint brush.

BTW, this is not an insecure post. you're proud of her, not a "look at my hot wife" post. there is a difference.

i don't really see what the difference is. she's good at painting, and she's good at looking good. it takes effort for anyone to do either of those things. the male models on the front of magazines at the grocery store spent 4 hours getting that "just out of bed hair" thing going on - god only knows how long the female models spend on their efforts to look like a twig with big boobs. so either way, you put effort into what you do and some people happen to have a good natural start: she's a good natural artist, and she's naturally hot. no difference to me. you can't tell me that you're not proud to walk around town with a hot girl hanging off your arm.

nicer photo. :) i can't figure out how to post a high res so you can zoom in and take a look at her detail. she had her critique w/ her professor today - it went well and she got a bunch of ideas from him as to how to improve it even more, so we'll see how it turns out.
