Just taking a poll out there of K5'ers to see what you guys and gals run in your rigs. I've visited a good oil filter study site and found out which filters to shy away from, but wonder what you all use for oil in your engines. Is Mobil 1 as good as it's hyped up to be?

3. I like the Quaker State formulated for trucks, and Fram filters. To each his own, but stay away from Havoline oil, they use ash in it, which likes to turn to sludge.

I use Napa's gold line filters (wix) and mobil one. I have a new motor and was able to start it out on a synthetic oil. I've had trouble with changing to a synthetic oil when the motor has had regular oil. So, when I wasn't using mobil one, I used valvoline and it worked really well.

I have had problems with Quaker state oil in several farm machines (at different times so it wasn't just a bad batch), and don't use Fram filters (after seeing the cutaways of them compared to others). For most vehicles I use Castrol GTX oil, and for my truck I use Mobil 1. I generally buy Bosche or AC Delco filters (on the truck I use the magnet straps to help pull out small metal debris the filter media misses). I have used the NAPA gold filters (basically same as WIX) and like those as well. Air cleaners I usually run K&N or AC Delco's.

I use AC Delco oil filters and Mobil 1 in my K5. I am currently looking into Royal Purple Synthetic oil and AMSOil. Royal Purple and AMSOil are just a little higher than Mobil 1, but they seem like far superior oils according to their websites(royalpurple.com) and (amsoil.com). If anyone has any info or experience with these two oil makers let us know.

I have been using Amsoil in all of my vehicles for the last 4 or 5 years. It is great stuff. Makes them easier to start in the winter to.

My father liked Amsoil's products so much in all his vehicles he became a dealer! He runs the motor oil, gear oil, greases, oil & air filters, and (I think) the ATF. His vehicles:
2000 Mercedes E320 Turbodiesel
1998 or 99 Suburban 6.5L Turbodiesel
4 different Peterbilt dump trucks (I think they're all Cat motors)
Topsoil machine (some diesel engine, not sure what)

AC Delco UltraGuard Gold. For $8, it better be good. No other companies will compare to it on there test because it smokes 'em all.

I use whatever quality oil that is on sale. Ac delco or purolator filters. Always use 4 oz of Tufoil additive in the crankcase in all my vehicles

Well I use Amsoil 10-30 with Amsoil filters one full flow # ASF-26 and a By-pass filter # BE-90. But before all this I ran Castrol Syntec and a KN filter. Synthetics are the only way to go. Eric

Valvoline oil and either fram filters or CarQuest filters. I run 15w40 in the burb, 20w50 in the Jimmy, and straight 50 in the Firebird. Stay away from sythetic unless you have run it from the start or under 10,000 miles. If not it will leak like crazy and burn it really eazy, especailly if the motor has over 50,000 miles on it.

Good to see some Amsoil guys. I use it in my street truck. Use their filters too, 4 micron.

The 4x4 only gets Pennzoil so I can afford to change it more often, but it will be going over to Ams as well soon.

Still Poundin' "pavment" after all these years!!! [IMG]
