    Best pre \'92 Blazer?

I'm looking to buy a Blazer. Is it best to get the newest year affordable or is there a better year for all around value and performance?

87-91 has fuel injection which you might be interested in... of course the first gens have the totally removeable hardtops.... and then the axles under some are beefer then others... then you got some trannys not as good as others... so there's none one perfect year. Just decide what you like look wise and then figure out a budget for the mods and thing you want to do and have done and go from there which in my opinion would be the best thing to do....

I agree. I use to have a 1971 that I put a set of Dana 70s under. It was very cool, but these days if you can find a clean one it will cost a fortune. I figured the '80s Blazers are a better value today.

I kinda like the 1980 Blazer. I dont own one, so I can't be too biased. I like that you usually get a 350 with a TH350 tranny, 205 T-case and a 12-bolt rear axle. The more electronics and doo-dads you get, the more headaches. Wiring up broken power windows and changing electric fuel pumps is a b!tch. They are nice when they function properly though.

Fill out your profile. If you live in CA I would go w/ a pre-74 so that it would be smog exempt (if you don't mind all the work that would go into making it nice). If you don't have the time/will to build up a 1st gen. than go with a 87-91 because you can get Fuel Injection.

The 90 and 91 have double sided galvanized lower body panels, which make for a longer lasting body in ice and snow country. Unless you prefer the free air-conditioning provided on many of there older brethren.

It depends on what is important to you. Do you want strength for offroading or is this going to be a pavement truck? Do you care about being able to remove the full top versus the half top? How much money can you spend? Answer some of these questions and we can help you out more.

I live in Cali, so when I was looking for a K/5 I definately wanted a pre '73 at the time so it was Smog exempt and I could build a wicked engine eventually. I also wanted the pre '75 because the full convertible is cool in the summer time.
First Gen Blazers Rock! 69-72 is the year to get in my oppinion. I like the 72 grille the best (I dont like the billet one) so that is the year I decided on finding and buying.
Whatever year you want, at least you know its all about the K/5 Blazers!

with the 89-91 you get a couple good things like fuel injection and a serpentine belt along with the new style grill. the seats are able to both move so passengers can get in on either side.

Though I have never owned one, I have always liked the '91 years.
Just to have a Blazer or Suburban for the last year it was made. [IMG]
Plus, I like those sleek black electric mirrors. [IMG]
