my roommate switched his homepage from ck5 to some ls1 website. i was like oooo loser. we made a bet that he can make an ls1 faster than i can a 4x4 truck. details havnt been hashed out but its gonna be a quarter mile and within a certain budget. am I crazy? budget includes purchase of vehicle. i think it can be done

A couple people I know heard me speak the number 500 and want to race me.

I think you're screwed because of the weight.

I would say congrats, you just took a state of the art all aluminum motor in a 2wd car and beat a 5000+# truck from the 80's and away with my kickass 4x4.:p:

yeah but if you figure in a budget it shouldnt be too bad, i can get the truck for a fraction of the cost than the ls1, and i could hook up on the line better

How long is this race going to be. Assuming you can hook it up and other guy can't, you might have a chance in a short race.

You're ****ed. Hope you didn't have too much money on it.

Aerodynamics, rotating mass, and lack of a crazy redline are going to kill you at a certain point.

thanks for the encouragement lol. With my funds I could see a turbo'ed big block, being i could make a 496 as of right now. aerodynamics, screwed yes... but focusing on drivetrain and lightening the truck up would be main priority. rid the box, things of that nature... i still got faith

Christ, what kind of budget are you talking about here?

A turbo'd big block that'll live past a couple of pulls is going to cost....

driver skill will play a big role too. I am not just planning on putting a high horse engine into a truck and hoping it will go fast. I want to build it for strip,

I just don't see it getting done for the price range you're talking and actually being a rig that'll last more than a few runs.

I mean, you're talking about boring and rebuilding a big block and the headwork to make it flow and take full advantage of a turbo...plus the turbo setup and a carb that'll flow and dump enough fuel to do that, and you're probably gonna be running a blow through setup which might make it interesting if a dedicated carb isn't in the budget.

Sorry, but I think your friend can make a ****ty junk camaro with an ls1 a whole lot faster than you can make a 5000# brick with a 700 pound motor.

I still think it would be badass to see an 80's 4x keep up with the LS1. I'm definatly gonna give it a shot. Might be hard for him to shift a 6spd fast enough who knows. Im gonna try

I was thinking lighten it, keep the ass end planted, proportion weight best as possible, beef the drivetrain to handle the torque of a launch, and whatever else I can think of as time goes on. I was inspired by watching the 80's 4x run high 11's

It would be sweet to beat him, but i agree, your screwed. Its possible....but if he can mod his too, your done.

He can buy a running car, put a turbo or super charger on it, and smoke just about anythign you want to build for a few runs.

I don't think it matters so much where the weight is if you can spin the front tires.

I would like to reiterate how badly that I think you're screwed though. An LS1 with a chip or forced induction should kill just about anything you can put together in a truck on the same budget.
