big block 454

    i have a 87 k5, im going to be going from 305 to a 454 big block, curious to how much more its going to weigh and how much changing im going to have to do to it!(getting hard to turn my 39" micky thompson tires)

    About 150 lbs. more than the small block. (don't take my exact word for that though) [​IMG]

    Along with that rat motor you will want a beefy tranny, stout tranfer case, and the axles to handle big HP.

    rat motor? already have 1 ton axles with 411s,have turbo 350 and transfer completely rebuilt and bullet proofed just need more power

    Sounds like you have it covered, I have been doing some checking on BB's myself and not all make big power.

    Just make sure that you get a oval port or RECTANGLE port! [​IMG] The peanut ports have been argued to be good motors too, but they need more work to get to the same place as a mild oval port BB. Let me know if you have any other questions... I dropped a 454 into my 87.... of course I bought the truck without driveline! [​IMG][​IMG]

    I'll be happy to answer anything I can for you... BTW I smoked by built TH350 with my oval port!!! [​IMG] Might need to get a TH400 or a SM465!!! shucks! [​IMG]
