Big cloud of white smoke.. Loud clang, and that\'s all she wrote...

Well while cruising down HWY 9 in washington this morning, doing 40-45 the motor let go... with a cloud of white smoke thicker than snow on christmas day... i pulled her to the side as the clanging stopped...

Well there's water and oil coming outta the side of the oil pan...

This was a newer/rebuilt sbc 400 with approximately under 15K on it...

Got it used from someone... not their fault, so I aint mad at ya! You knwo who you are! [censored] just happens!!!

SO... I guess it's time to upgrade...

Where can I get prices on a long block from chevy?

Anyone have good luck with wrecking yard motors?

I dont think I can rebuild this one.. considering there is oil and water coming outta the oilpan...

    Not a good day...

I tried to go fishing.. almost knocked my self in the head with teh 5 oz weight...

Then my nice computer's Hard Drive took a dump...

I'm gonna lock myself in the yard where i cant break anything... /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Hmm, that doesn't sound like too much fun...

Anyway, Sallee Chevrolet has good prices on small and big blocks, either standard replacement or GMPP crate motors.

Have you checked it out at all yet? Pull the pan? Just wondering what let go, if a rod bolt broke or what...

I'm curious too... I dont even wanna look at it right now....

i think a rod cap came off... it made a clanging sound 1/2 second before the white smoke...
and it punctured the oil pan... near teh top of the pan where it meets the block, bout an inch down on the pass side.. near front of block...

Been there. Done that. It sucks. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I managed to suck a bunch of water into the first TPI engine that I put into my K5. The engine had come out of a nearly new 'vette that was totalled. It had just over 8,000 miles on it. But the carnage was just as you describe. A hole in the oil pan, just below the block, with coolant running out of the hole. On mine, rod #7 snapped in two. It punched a hole in the cylinder wall and the one in the oil pan. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

I'd consitter a salvage yard / used motor for the time being. Gets ya up and wheeling while ya build yourself a megamotor. I'd really like to go big block with my Blazer, sooner or later I'll come acrost one at the right price. I've been drueling over the "RamJet 502" from Chevrolet preformance. But a $8,500.00 price tage is out of my range for now.

ive had alright luck with the parts ive goten from there.i think they said the engines have a 1 year warrantee.of course ive never bought one from there but if i had the cash it doesnt sound too bad for a rebuilt 350.

How much are you looking to spend? They sell a 383 stroker engine for less than 2 grand all balanced ready to go. Call the Mt Vernon store and ask about the Evergreen 383 engine. I think its about 1700 complete.
