what's the biggest tire you would put on this stock setup without running the risk of any damage?
i have 3.08's and 31's.i wouldnt go any bigger.gearing that high strains the entire driveline, especially the tranny.excessive heat kills auto transmissions. also,i dont use o/d unless im on the interstate.700's like low gearing.they live much longer.3.08's are for station wagons. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I'm with you. Had 3.08's and 31's, and even though it was a 305 compared to the posters 350, I wouldn't recommend that combo with any larger tires. The engine turned too slow, and it was a dog, although I could hold it in 1st for a long time. As I recall, I could hit 50 in 2nd gear, without wrapping the motor out too much. Still dumb, it wasn't any fun to drive.
I ran 35s for about 2 months until one got a hole and i went back to 32s. I had the 35s on everytime i went wheeling too. It did suck a lot but pulling 1800 going 60 in third gear on the interstate sure made the gas mileage decent.
3.06? hmm, never heard of them..but any way as far as MAXIMUM tire size goes...it doesnt matter wha the gears are...well sorda, but the actual axle is what matters.. dont go bigger than 35's on astock axle...i ran 38s for about a month...it wasnt pretty /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif stock 10bolt dont take bigger than a 35... if you wanna go bigger get a stronger axle..lol
