I would love to run my 85 jimmy without a hardtop...but need something over the top just in case there is a surprise rain storm (I live in the north-wet!). Anyone tried making their own jeep-like bikini top? I dont have the ca$h right now to sink into on of those $800+ Canback soft tops. =( At any rate, I was thinking of adding a behind-the-passanger-seat roll bar anyway...that'd be a conventient thing to pull such a top over. If I was going to make a home-made one...what kind of material would work? Prolly have to be black..relatively tough...and either water-proof or easily made water-resistant. Another dillema, is how to attach it to the back/top of the cab. It'd be nice if that seal was water-proof so it wouldnt leak there. Anyway, any ideas/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I've seen a guy running around here with a setup like that on a Bronco - he's got a channel like Jeeps use pop-riveted to the top of the cab.

Have you tried goign to a local upholstery shop or tent shop. My local tent place can get the same material used in J**p soft tops and can make a bikini or full soft top.

I saw a guy with a modified Scout top he was using... check in the phone book for boats shops..... if they make boat covers they can make you a top...

thats exactly what i had on my 1990k5 till i cut the cab top off last week, i used a roll bar out of a mid 80's four runner ( cut it and added 12in in width) for behind my rear seat for the bikini top to hinge over, i used a round style retainer that i custom made to fit into the hardtop holes in the cab, worked and looked great. the top its self cost about 80 bucks to have made (tonnue cover material)
