Are blackouts those smoked lenses that go over the headlights? If so, dont get them because they render the headlights useless, unless you have fog/spot lights to use. A friend of mine has them on his Mustang and you cant even tell if the headlights are on unless your lookin straight at 'em even then they are so dim that they serve no purpose.

Just think of them as an excellent reason for the cops to pull you over. It gives them cause even if you aren't speeding or anything. Hope you aren't drinking or doing anything else illegal inside your rig when it happens. [IMG]

Phillips makes "ColourClear" headlights -- They're black when they're off, and somehow clear when they're on. I haven't actually stumbled across them yet, but I've seen them in an old Performance Products catalog.

I like what Logan is talking about. I considered them for my S-10 Blazer, but never got around to getting them. They are pretty cool, too.

Not only do they look like something on a lowrider, but they are dangerous too. When I drive on the highway at night, I sure as hell wouldn't want something that would reduce the brightness of my headlights.

They look good on some vehicles -- but not on a K5... If you're going for an aerodynamic look on a Z28 maybe. We all know our trucks are as aerodynamic as a brick (maybe less). If you're going to use them you have to have highway legal headlights on your rig to use instead because they cut down on the light output so much they effectively render your headlights useless. BTW, all the KC's I've seen are not legal for on-road use here in NY. Neither are blackouts... You're just asking for a ticket, maybe more than one if the cop isn't an enthusiast of 4x4's...

Although many of us don't like them, if you do like them, then you should just get them.

I had those smokey headlight covers on my 79 once...I was doin' the legal limit when a Trooper started followin' me...he passed me, drove for a few miles and then pulled me over.....it was 2 in the afternoon....he told me that those covers were illegal after sundown, so I pulled them off (velcro)....SO......he wrote me a $75 ticket for not wearing a seat belt....I told him I had removed it to get my license out of my backpack which was on the rear seat....He said that since I didn't have it on when he approached the truck, I get the ticket....and I could argue with the judge....I was 4 counties from home, so I just sent the money....a lawyer would have cost more than the moral victory.....any State Trooper in Texas will write you a ticket for whatever reason strikes their fancy at the time....and if you are even a little over the limit....you can dang well guarantee they will add at least 5mph to the total.......I got a ticket in my company truck because my registration sticker was out of date (by 3 days)....I showed him the new one I had gotten that morning and had yet to replace in the windshield......I got the ticket....JP reduced the fine to $10.....would have been over $100......I seriously don't understand Texas Troopers......anyways...I wouldn't give 'em any excuse to stop me....they'd write their Momma a ticket....JD
