My 86 Blazer will not go into gear.. I pull the shifter down into any gear and it acts like its in neutral... Is this just a bad tranny or something else?

Check the tranny fluid for discoloration and a burnt smell. The tranny oil should be a strawberry red and should not smell burnt at all.

Also make sure your T-case did not get bumped into the nuetral position...

Mine did that awhile back and it turned out to be the pin that connects the manual selector to the valve body. I had to drop the pan and replace the wire pin. Hopefully it's something that simple!!

That jeep thing? Yah I understand it....... Like my Blazer? http://community.webshots.com/user/blazerk5

the truck started givin me problems about a week ago... i would put it into gear and it would move verrrrrrrrry slowly. i left it at a gas station and came back the same night and replaced the tranny fluid and filter because it was black. it worked fine goin into gear but 1st and second gear were messed it had to be real high in the rpm's to change gears and when it did it would jerk real hard. then i was comin home from a friends house and turned into my neighborhood and it wouldnt go... it was like it was in neutral. i checked the fluid and it is pitch black again... i dont know what the hell is worng.

TCI, or be a bastard like me and have one from 1991 (just found out the other day, so I'm real happy) Actually in the last few years (89 up) they did even more improvements and made them alot for reliable

I'd get the 700 rebuilt. Put a cooler on it, and change the fluid regularly. They usually cost about $1200 to rebuild, and you can get some better parts put in it so it will last longer...

Have you checked your tv cable. It's more than just for downshifting. If it is out of adjustment your tranny will do all sorts of neat tricks you thought were impossible. And it's cheaper than a rebuild.

If you are having too much fun it's probably illegal.
