    blazer rides rough; RS5000\'s?

Ok, I just want to see if other guys running the RS5000's are having a real harsh ride. When ever i go over any bump in the road, i really feel it. My truck is lifted but im unsure of how much lift exactly and what springs i have(bought it that way), i have a 4" block in the rear with an add-a-leaf it looks like. It is very very harsh.

I have the 5000's and a 4 inch with blocks out back and the ride isnt to bad, actually I think its pretty good, UNTIL I go over some bumps or down a street that has been "repaired" or railroad tracks or something.......VERY harsh, sounds like the truck is going to come apart. I cant even imagine going down a washboard road[IMG]. I dont really have anything to compare it to as this is my first lifted truck. What I have been told its the shcoks. I would say 95% or higher of the people on this site, hate the 5000's and say they ride stiff as hell. It just seems to be the shock NOT to get. If you cn afford it go with the 9000's, adjustable and alot of people like those here, but they are pricey. If you want something less expensive, I have heard good things about the Trailmaster SSV's. A couple members are going with those soon from what I've read. I'm curious to here what they think. And if you do have add-a-leafs, I'm sure those arent helping the situation either. Just my $.02

Are your body mounts good? I just did mine and the truck feels new.

well, i havent checked the body mounts, probably the stock rubber ones. I should replace them. How hard is that to do. I also would really like to get the 9000s i guess its time to start saving

Listen to 90blzr. He knows what he's talking about.

I have the RS5000's on my '85 K30 and I HATE THEM!!! [IMG]

I wished I would have gotten the RS9000's instead. I'm stuck with these 5000's for now because they are only approx 6 months old. [IMG]

For about another $100, you can get the 9000's and adjust them to YOUR specs.

I have the RS5000 on my '90 and really don't care for them. I run Skyjacker on my '88 and the difference is night and day. Try'em I know you will like 'em.

What would happen if i removed the rear shock absorbers? I know i would get a softer ride but at what price, would i lose a lot of stability? I have my top off now so there is not too much weight back there.

Rancho shocks are lifetime warranty. I run the RS5000's and they are O.K. If you go to the RS9000's get the in-cab controller. Extra money but i here its worth it. Most places require original invoice to warranty though.

I have 5000 and although I don't think much of them, my truck rode like a tank until I changed the front springs to easyride and replaced all the spring bushings with greasable ones. It made a 150% improvement. Talk to Stephen at ORD. He will set you up. You can also check the spring bushings 1st to see if they are rusted up and don't give. If the springs can't flex, it doesn't matter what kind of shocks you have.

    Re: blazer rides rough; RS5000\'s?

Lets see. Here's my suspension setup...
Front = 4" Tough Country EZ rides with RS5012's, ORD Longer shackles, Greasable bolts and bushings.

Rear = 86 K5 Springs with ORD 4" Shackle flip with greasable bolts and bushings, and RS5012's on them relocated on the axletube and custom crossmember made.

My ride is exceptionally soft and I love it. I just dont understand everyone complaining about stiffness. Do you honestly expect your K5 to ride like a car? Mine in no way does and from the previous suspension setup its like night and day. I had Rancho springs up front and 74K5 springs in back with 4" blocks. I can honestly say that it is more the springs that cause stiffness than the shocks.

    My 2 cents

I ditto Waxer's comments. It is the springs, not the shocks. I have 5000s on stock suspension on my Blazer, and if anything, they are TOO SOFT.

It may be that the springs are too stiff (like mine) but a better shock can only help the ride IMHO.
