Ok, this is not for my Blazer.

I just backed into a newer (maybe late 90s) model Camry [IMG] What luck!!
All I hit, very slowly was the pass. side door. It dented only the door and smashed the window. The lady and I both backed up, but she backed up first, so it's my fault. [IMG]

Anyhow, I don't want to involve my insurance, and want to take care of this on my own. My opinion, it shouldn't be more than $500. Just from the description, what do yall think it may cost. Only the one door got dented pretty good, maybe size of a basket ball, and the window is gone. That's it. was going maybe 1mph and then heard a crunch and stopped. Couldn't even see the damn thing!

    Dude... that sux.
Probably gonna be more then you want to spend. Glass is expensive for these late model cars.

Oh man Boss! I think $500 is probably pretty optimistic, that door will either end up being replaced or fixed...dunno which would be less money but either way paint will be involved.
I bumped into a Dodge mini-van a few years ago at less than 2 MPH and I had to let my insurance company pay the bill...$1900 damage. They needed to replace the rear liftgate though.

    Good luck!

Toyota Parts are HIGH!. I figure about a $100 for the for aftermarket glass, $400 for a door shell (if she will except used you might find a door with glass for $300 used but that's her call), $300 Labor on the paint and prep and $100 to hang it. Probably looking right at $1k.

    Boss,

Don't panic just yet. Have her get three estimates and see if you really want to pay for it. One thing the ins company can offer you that dealing with her directly can not, is a relase from future liability. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but I have been in a similar situation, and depending upon who you are dealing with it can become a problem.

Hold on. Have you looked into paintless dent removal? I had a door that had dents in it that I paid someone $100 to pull the dents out and you can't even tell they were there. No bondo, no painting, no tearing the door apart. If the dent isn't that bad it might be possible to go this route.

  9. Man,that sucks, but wait 'till you hear this. My niece just had her car (2001 Mercury Mystique, I think) hit by someone opening their door in a parking lot. The insurance company gave her $400 for scratched paint! I'm happy for her, but there wasn't ten bucks worth of damage to her car! Call your insurance and let them handle it, and the release from future liability is a plus.

Well, she is going to get an estimate tomorrow and I will determine if I can handle it or not. I'm under 25, so insurance will rocket if I put a claim on there. [IMG]
Get this, the worst part is, she is the VP of her company down stairs. Her last name is part of the company name!! She's not a person to take lightly I take it....[IMG]

Who said it's your fault? As you said you both were backing up......Who said she was backing up first... Did she stop and then you hit her.....was there anyone that saw the crash? Be carefull not to take the full blame for it yet..... She is also partly responsible....
