Body lift installed and I like it

    I got home with my new body lift kit and just had to go to work on the truck
    imidiatly because I couldn't sit idle with brand new parts waiting to install.
    I fired up the air compressor and in no time it was installed and I was loving
    it. Instructions were a little generalized but who needs instructions
    anyways, huh? Had to cut out some of the old bolts, but non the less an
    easy instal. I thought it would be more difficult to get all the stuff
    relocated/adjusted (fan shroud, tranny linkage, wireing, ect.) Well now
    I want to get my 35s mounted and start hacking at the fenders. I just
    wanted to express my happyness. Thanks again Marv for selling me the kit.

    What did you do for the steering shaft? Bumpers?

    Ok, I'll take some pics when I get home today. It was a 2" lift. For the sterring shaft, I just
    removed the plastic junk "gluing" the outer shaft to the inner shaft, drilled a hole in the
    inner shaft where I wanted it, and used a cotter pin to hold them in place. I'll show a pic
    of this too. I left the bumpers in place since they arn't original anyways. Might modify the
    rear to be sunk inside the frame rails soon. I also drilled a hole in the frame so I could move
    the tailgate spring catches up to accomidate for their new position. The tranny linkage was
    modified by just cutting it in half, and welding in a short peice to extend it.

    You should really use replacement plastic pieces as they are made for easy crush in the event of a head on collision to colapse the shafts within themselves lessening the chance of the steering wheel going through your chest.

    Yeah a plastic pin will work, you can get them at napa.

    The front eight bolts were easy as heck to take out. Only took about 15 min. But the two by the tailgait, took over an hour a peice to cut out. Other than two of the bolts supplied by the kit were too short, it was easy to install. Thanks for the compliments.

    Nice body lift, I left my fan shroud connected at the top and bottom and added a spacer in the middle

    The body lift made a good amount of difference in the ride (I also added poly bushings).

    Looking good. I didn't think of extending the shroud. what size lift is yours? Are those steel blocks?

    The blocks where 1 1/8" and the poly bushings added about an 1 1/4" over the worn out rubber bushings.

    Yes they are! I never thought I would like the plastic/resin lift pucks. If I remember right they are hollow/semi-hollow. I went to Compressed steel (a scrap yard here around town) and looked through the new scrap. I found a dozen bars 25' long 5"wide and 1 1/8" thick. I asked what they where and he said old railroad ties (Now I'm thinking railroad ties have a shape to them, so these must have been under the ties? as support?). I had him bring a torch over and cut them off in 4" pieces (so I ended up with 4"x5"x1 1/8" blocks). I started to drill the first one and it took forever to even scratch the surface and the bit was smoken, even after I added a little oil. So I ran to the machine shop with my 10 blocks and had then drill them in the drill press. I believe I paid $45 for the steel and $15 for the machine work. They are roughly 6-8 lbs each, but they increased my surface area for the mounts and made a nice lift to boot. On the next project /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif I may try the ORD lift pucks (I believe they are round and aluminum).
