Now that I have everyone's attention [IMG], I just wanted to ask if anyone has EVER witnessed, first-hand, a broken D60 axle tube? I've been readnig in the Dec 4WOR (heheeh WES!), and fell upon the section on pages 52 and 53 ("Ready for Battle" article). The picture on the top is of a massive trussed D60, which looks mighty beefy!

Then you can page over to 56, which shows a Jimmy (probably with a 10B) that has broken its front axle. As pittyful as this looks, I NEVER want to see my truck like that! Of course I already have a D60, but (ask my friends) I can break ANYTHING!!! [IMG][IMG]

So - what is my point? I dont' ever plan to get the truck 20 ft in the air, but I am building a BULLET PROOF truck. How many folks out there with D60s have welded in trusses? What do you do with you truck that got you to that stage? And if I do the front, why not the 14BFF?!!!

Does anyone make kits for this, that I can weld in myself?

As always, thanks for every bit of info!

Having a bit of withdrawl K30 [IMG]

There is not such thing as bullet proof.

All you will do is move your weakest link to another area.

Now you need to choose- which weakest link is easist to fix ?

So if I DO weld in a truss, what part(s) can I expect to pass the beating to next?

    If you're just talking a truss , it's fine.

If you do jumping or rock crawling definately do the truss

I meant more on upgrading the d60 in other ways

I have seen plenty of bent D-60 fronts and they all were from mil. pick-ups, most likely from getting the front airborne and the extra wt. from the 6.2. Its always the long tube side and if the spring pad looks tweaked I would be getting out the straight edge BEFORE spending alot of time on that axle, dont ask how I know this!!!

I broke the tube on my Dana 44.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

i got a good 5-6 ft of air last weekend and i broke the t-case and tranny. the D60 held fine.if you were to truss the D60, if you broke, it would be like my problem IMHO
