Yesterday my trans stopped shifting in my 90' Suburban 4x4 w/ 700-R4, because of excessive clutch material gumming up the valves, and the clutches are blew out(DUH /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif ). Well, I got to goto school on Monday(3 hr drive). So today, I removed the tranny from the burban today. I bought this 84' K-5 4x4 with a 305/700r4 in it for $250, so I have started removing that tranny but it got dark out. My question /forums/images/icons/confused.gif is, what is the difference between the 84' 700R4, and a 90' 700R4? I hope it will bolt to my Suburban and work, or else I am SOL!

The Burb will have an NP241 prolly ... the Blazer prolly an NP208. I don't know if the input shafts are the same between these two?

Since they're both 4x4, the '84 tranny *should* bolt right up. Note that the early 700's are famous for being weak, so go easy on that tranny while you rebuild the other one with good parts ;-)

[or replace it with a TH40-0 that works heh heh]

My tranny is messed up cause I rebuilt it once(6000 miles ago!), I think the servo seals are blew out for the 3-4 clutch(never checked the servo engagement). I also installed a B$M shift kit which probably didnt help. I am going to disassemble to see if the 3-4 is gone, if so, I am going to trash it. I would have to get a new pump, valve body, torque converter, and its just to expensive(to much clutch gunk/chunks). I would rather find like a used 350(I dont care about overdrive), arent those stronger then the 700r4's? Future plans(like 2 years later), are 454/400/205 on 3/4 axles.
