It's being called the Battlecreek fire. Right now this fire has number 1 priority in the country. It's bad, it's way out of controle. Everything is hazzy, and you can smell the smoke from 25 miles away. Over 10,000 acres now. They are evacuating lots of areas around Keystone, Mt. Rushmore, Rockerville has already been evacuated, It's burning tords Hill City. Roads are closed just outside of Rapid City. My fav. trails have burned up aswell as the shooting range I go to. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

They've reopened some roads, so I took a drive thismorning. My favoret trail, and the shooting range are burnt up /forums/images/icons/frown.gif They belive this fire was human coused. It started behind a children's home. I hope som kid wasn't playing with matches, but it look like it. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif The fire did alot of damage. Burnt up some very beautiful country side in the area I spent alot of time in. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif The fire jumped the roads in sevreal places. It rained last night, so that's helped alot. The hills are blackened and still smokinng in alot of places. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif Very sad indeed. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Im sorry to hear that Z3PR. Allot of the place I lived in for a few years in california burnt up. It was only a few feet away from the school.

It made us all feel better to go out and plant trees in the areas that were burnt. Maybe you will have a group gathering that can plant some things that were burned up by the fires. It really does make you feel better. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

    Estimated size: 13,700 acres
    Full containment: 100%, as of 8/24 at 6:00 p.m.
    Estimated control date: 8/29 at 6:00 p.m.

Current Situation: Saturday's fire behavior was confined to a few smoldering
logs and stumps. Crews are patroling and mopping up hot spots around the
perimeter of the fire. Fire suppresison rehabilitation has begun. Rehabilitation
entails preventing erosion on ground disturbed by the fire operations. Heavy

A Type III Team was created from personnel presently assigned to the fire.
They will shadow the Type I Team Sunday and assume command Monday.

Fire suppression resources: 2 air tankers and 3 helicopters are available, 26
    20-person hand crews, 95 engines, 9 dozers, 24 water tenders, 973 total
personnel are assigned. Heavy demobilization of personnel and equipment will
    continue.

Property losses: 3 residences and several outbuildings.

Road openings: All roads are now open to residents only.

Travel Restrictions: Mystic District Ranger Bob Thompson has announced that
travel restrictions are being put into place within the Battle Creek Fire area.
