Bush has suggested that we send cash to help the tsunami victims; the same victims that would kill me if I walked their streets. They can rot and die for all I care. They hate us but expect us to help them? And then the UN moron who says that we aren't giving enough and went into how there are rich nations (such as the US) who need to contribute more to poor countries with starving children. Maybe if the poor countries weren't run by a corrupt dictator they wouldn't be poor. It sounds to me like he (the UN moron) is promoting global socialism. Who the hell decided that the US has to be the fools to help out the entire planet? And who the hell is GW to ask me for money?

I was not aware that Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Indonesia hated us, especially the islanders and people in remote areas who do not even have access to the media or any other means of knowing about the US. These are the people who died, farmers, fisherman, and the like and I doubt they hate us.

Man, you are one misguided, cold-hearted mofo. Do you realize how many children over there are without parents now? Do you realize how many families have been ripped apart? If you can honestly watch some of the news footage showing all the bloated, rotting bodies filling the streets or the clips of children being washed away by the flood waters and not feel a little disturbed by it, you are indeed a sad case.

My wife and I sent $25 to the Red Cross to help the relief efforts out. It's the least I could do, seeing that I have a roof over my head and food to eat. Right now, half way across the world, there are about a million less fortunate people who had no choice in the matter......

I hope that you appreciate all you've got, because right now you sound like a spoiled little brat. I truly hope that someday you're not in a position where you need to accept a helping hand from someone willing to lend it.

Who the hell do you think? The US has ALWAYS been the world's self-appointed babysitter. Your Govt's history of foreign political and social engineering is well documented and continues to this day. Get used to it.

*parts of this response is for everyone, not just canmore*

How the f much aid has canada sent? The people hit by the tsunami don't hate you, it's easy for you to bash me for just hating back. Yes I am cold hearted. Yes the people there do hate Americans. Do you think that an American could just hop on a plane and fly over there and walk around on the streets with a "I'm a US citizen" shirt on and not get beat to death? Screw their kids, they are being raised to hate us! Think of it as global cleansing.

Is that why people cry when we won't help them and claim we aren't living up to our global responsibilities?

I certainly wouldn't expect help from someone who I've hated my entire life.

If it makes you feel any better, 15 Americans are dead and 5,000 are missing as a result of this disaster.

I seem to recall most of the world holding candle light vigils for the U.S. as a result of September 11th, as well as Rudy Giuliani turning down cash from Muslim princes. The world was on our side when we had a disastrous tragedy. I think even the French had sympathy for us.

We *can* help, so we do. That's why America is better than the countries that *can* help, but *don't*, or just talk about how much they're doing. Our involvement in Iraq is along the same principle, we are there to protect our interests and help a people. We're fighting an enemy in Iraq, calamity in Sri Lanka.

Yeah, there's plenty of hypocrisy in our foriegn "aid" implementation, but this event was/is catastrophic. Something like the African HIV epidemic, I disagree that we should be doing anything to help them. Keep it in your pants and stop nailing everything in sight, and that wouldn't be an epidemic. No one in sri lanka asked to get thier house washed away.

It won't bankrupt us to have a little compassion. It helps us save a little face in front of the world, and more importantly, helps people that can't help themselves recover from disaster. :thumb:

BTW, I believe most of the people that were affected were Buddhist/Hindu, not majority muslim.;)

I am a Bush supporter, but I don't feel this way because of anything to do with him. I wanted to send money to help the victims before Bush said anything about it.

    I copy/pated these from ratch's link:

Maybe this is why I really don't like sending aid at the request of our dictator, oops, I mean president. I don't care what anyone thinks of me. I will not go out of my way to kiss a$$ to make someone like me. Muslims have hated the world for thousands of years, now aid money will majically make them love us? Get real! The muslim religion says that they must kill christians to see Allah.

First of all, as of today, Canadian Govt's, private businesses, and everyday guys like me have donated over 150 million dollars. Yeah, we're doing our part.

Secondly, you need to spend some time reading and investigating the facts to avoid spouting such uneducated and ignorant BS from your yapper. A large percentage of the affected area has a tourist-dominated economy, with thousands of Canadians, Americans, and Europeans travelling there every year. Did you miss the fact that over 3000 of the dead were tourists?

Yup, you could hop on a plane and fly over there without any fear. Of course, a guy with an attitude like yours should probably stay home anyhow. Think before you type, and keep your racist crap out of this forum. That's your last warning.

I am not racist. I am white, one of my best friends is black. I have no religion, but have friends from many different religions. At a place that I used to work I gave a guy a ride home every night, he was from India. I do take offense to being called a racist when I am the farthest thing from it. If personnal attacks like that are what I will get here for simply voicing my opinion, you will not have to boot me. I can get the abuse elsewhere.

Why do you think they hate the U.S. there?? Most of the area affected was tropical/resort area, so I'd say yeah, you could walk around with a t-shirt that says "I'm a U.S. citizen" and not get beat down.

I just looked up some facts about 4 countries affected, and the only thing I could find that *might* make someone think they hate us is the 88% Muslim population of 1 of the countries affected:

    Sri Lanka:
    Religions:
    Buddhist 70%, Hindu 15%, Christian 8%, Muslim 7% (1999)

    India
    Religions:
Hindu 81.3%, Muslim 12%, Christian 2.3%, Sikh 1.9%, other groups including Buddhist, Jain, Parsi 2.5% (2000)

    Indonesia
    Religions:
    Muslim 88%, Protestant 5%, Roman Catholic 3%, Hindu 2%, Buddhist 1%, other 1% (1998)

    Thailand (they're even a U.S. ally, apparently)
    Religions:
    Buddhism 95%, Muslim 3.8%, Christianity 0.5%, Hinduism 0.1%, other 0.6% (1991)
"In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict."

What reason do you have to believe they hate us there?

Indonesia is the country that I was mostly referring to, and it's not because they are muslim. I really don't know why they dislike the US.

dude, no offense, but you're opinions are waaaay off base. its not the mideast (even if it was, your thinking is still wrong). India and the surrounding areas are over 80% Hindu, with about 10% Muslim.. these are mostly resort areas that cater to foriegners, including the U.S. and have nothing against us..
