I don't like the idea of all the smog stuff on the 86. The 78 has basically nothing on it.

Both are stock rides. Which one would you pic an why??

    Thanks

I would sat depends on what you are gonna do with them. Ones a 4 spd and one's a auto which do you prefer? Also if you get the 1/2 ton are you gonna throw 3/4 or 1 ton stuff under it? If that was the case I would buy the 3/4 since the stuff is already there. Last thing is which front clip style do you prefer square or round lights? I would buy the one that is already set up in the direction that you are gonna go with /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Good luck and pics when you get one.

If I coulda found a manual tranny Blazer when I bought my auto I would have done it. I just get bored with the auto. Is the inspection fee more for the newer truck or since they're so old does it really matter? That could be an issue as if I remember Utah is a real stickler for that sorta stuff. Good luck to ya either way.

If this is going to be a driver I would stick with the 78. More states are doing emmisions, can become a headache. your choice

Well, removing the emisions equiptment is out of the question here in utah.

I will only do some trail driving . . . no heavy duty 4x4 stuff.

The standards were real high 1100ppm on the 78. your truck could basically be sending raw feul out the exhaust and still pass.

If you have to smog it, definitely go with the older truck.

Since the 4 speed is probably a 208 case anyway, it's not like that's the perfect fine, however, the hydraulic clutch is nice.
