Saw some awesome footage on the news last night of a C130 with Gattling gun, 50cal cannon and airborn Howitzer flying around in a circle tearing up Somalias bad boys. Awesome aircraft, I've never seen that before.
But.... I just hope this is a show of force and they keep it an airborne offensive. I'm not sure of the poitics behind this. I know they're a terrorist stronghold nation but is this a bit of payback too?
I don't think we (over here) get the full story of what it's really about, anyone care to educate me?
And if anyone has a link to footage of that C130...post up!

there are lots of vids out there, search for a pic of the bagdad/falugia (S/P:dunno: tornado, its is a open exposer pic of bulits making a perfect cone and the ship flys in a cercle fireing on the same spot.

I beleave they are called and Iknow that the mil guys will be in on this :D that it is calls the AC-130U spectra gunship.

I think there are only like 7 of them i read once, and they are not used a lot in battles as they move slow and are varnable to fire as they must fly low.

    Get some...

Yeah the AC130 is a awesome gun platform. For troops on the ground it is perfect for close airsupport. Why send troops in to attack some place when all you have to do is guild the spector to the target. A few days ago the news mentioned that we had some SpecOps on the ground working with the Eiteopians(sp) to drive the jihadist out. Well I guess that was true since somebody directed the AC130 in. Hey to me a dead terrorist is just as good as a captured one.

I disagree, a dead one is cheaper and can't ever harm us again. So a dead one is better by far.

Kill enough of them and they won't have anything to talk about.

Yeah, we're still entertaining one of the Embassy terrorists captured in the early 80s(i think). He's costing nearly $1000 a week to keep. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ordered no one walks out of that siege. One of the SAS said, in a recent interview, that she was really unhappy that one had been taken alive. 2 of the SAS took him into the building when it was clear to put a round in his head but another officer stopped them. Guess he didn't get any promotion that year!!

    • 4× 7.62 mm GAU-2/A miniguns [IMG] [IMG]
20 mm Vulcan cannon ammo belt

    • 2× 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon
    • 2× 40 mm (1.58 in) L60 Bofors cannon
AC-130E Pave Aegis and AC-130H Pave Spectre II

    AC-130U "Spooky" Gunship

    [edit] Upgrades

A new program has been initiated to upgrade the armament of existing AC-130s still in service. The 25 mm GAU-12/U and 40 mm Bofors are to be replaced with two 30 mm Mk 44 30 mm Bushmaster II cannons.[1] There are also plans to look into replacing the M102 howitzer with a breech-loading 120 mm mortar, and to give the AC-130 a standoff capability using either the AGM-114 Hellfire missile, the Hydra 70 rocket or the Viper Strike glide bomb.

Now thats some kick ass firepower!

since the enemy in this war has NO anti air capability to speak of... I think they should convert a C5 galaxy into a gun ship. Forget about this 4-8 guns ****... gimme 100 guns and several tons worth of ammo. If it can haul 2 M1A2 tanks into the air... it can hold a **** ton of bullets and miniguns...

at any rate, the AC130 is a totally kick as weapons system... IMO they should build more. From what I have heard, they have been VERY busy over the last 5 years....

I haven't read much about this conflict, but from what I've heard on the radio, this is a full blown theater in the war on terror.. the ethiopian gov't, (which is christian, btw - something you'll never hear mentioned by wolf blitzer ) decided that they didn't want the islamic jihadists living next door, so they cleaned house.. we seem to be batting clean up here.. shows what a little commitment in this war will get you..

Yeah, from what I hear over here it's not quite that simple. The Ethiopian gov't said they'll stay for x amount of time but then leave (leaving another power struggle void) The islamic Courts are on the run which is good though. Trouble is, Europe (And America???) has been pouring aid into Ethiopia for decades because the gov't spend money on a civil war and starving their own people. Already all the old warlords are starting to settle old scores since before the Islamic Courts moved in.
It's a mess that hopefully can be sorted out with a gattling gun from the air! The last thing we need as nations is to start putting troops on the ground in there.
Like I said in my original post, I don't really know enough about the politics behind this but I can see it going bad!
