My buddy scored a 500 Caddy with a 350/203 for $100 today. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Problem is the 350 has got a hole in the case under the govenor cover so he needs a new trans. He plans to use a 350 again since it will be the easiest to locate and build.

SO, Does a Caddy use the BOP bellhousing pattern? What should he be looking for in a new core? Can he use a complete 2wd or will he need to swap in a 4x4 output shaft?
Was there ever a K case trans with a BOP pattern?

    Thanx

TJ, the few Caddy's you've seen had Chevy engines in them then. and they werent 500s either. Caddy uses the BOP bellhousing.

Find a BOP T350 Tranny and have a shop swap the 4wd trans guts (output shaft mainly) into it and make the case a short shaft case. That is what is done with mine and it works great. A good tranny shop will do it for you no problem and if they say it can't be done move onto a different shop.

As for the Chevy trans behind a Caddy motor yes it can be done with an adapter so its possible that is what he had just left out the adapter portion of his swap.

K-case is the thicker transmission case used on K(4wd) trucks.

Thanx for the replies everybody! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Turns out my friend didn't buy a 500, its a 425. But $100 for a running motor with all accesories, junk trans and a 203 is still a pretty good deal. I relayed him all the info I got here and also pointed him to www.500cid.com which I found in the other caddy post. Its just too bad he's gonna put the setup in an 80 CJ-7. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

k case started in 78, otherwise all earlier 4x4 trannies were non k case

you can swap 4x4 tailshaft into any th350 regardless of make it is/bellhousing pattern it has, so you can make a BOP 4x4 tranny in which never existed in factory produced form
