Has taken a console shifter out of a car and put it into a K5? Anyone know of a semi decent write up on this subject?

It shouldnt be hard, all you need is the shifter, cable and all related brackets at the tranny. The hardest part will be setting it in the best position and building a stand for it to sit on.

This is of no use to you but is good for us non OD guys but TMK this is a little known fact about early Camaro shifters. In the early 70s the single stick shifters, not the inverted U of 70-72, the shifters have a sort of ratchet action to them. When you drop it in gear, if the shaft will move side to side this is the shifter it works on. Push it to the right and it will ONLY slip into the next gear up. No matter HOW hard you hit it. Release and push it over again, and slam it into drive. Its not so much a ratchet action as it is a slam shifter of sorts. I used to have a bunch of them after I discovered this, but they all went bad sitting in the barn. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
