I am thinking on painting my K5 with a Urban Camo Scheme. Anyone ever done this before? What type of paint should I use? Should I draw out the patterns first and just fill em in or should I just freehand it on the fly? There is a Army Reserve near me and I see their K5's with the desert storm camo and jungle camo. They look kewl. Any help is appreciated.

There is a guy in my area that has a white blazer with gray & black camo on it. He used a brush to do the shapes. It looks good from a distance.

    Best of luck

  3. Do not brush it on !! There is actually an Army manual that gives the schemes to paint for the different areas, artic, dessert, and forest. I have painted tanks,PC's and hummers before and we basically copied the pattern from looking at another vehicle and then took chalk to mark the pattern and then used flat paint in whatever colors you decide.

On the military vehicels did you use a spray can type paint?
Do you know of any web sites that have the different patterns posted? I was also thinking of something like that, I saw a K5 in one of the mags this month that had camo paint w/leaf print. Looked cool [IMG]
My paint is shot anyway and the way I wheel it I can't justify spending the $$$$ on a new paint job!!
any more info on hommade paint jobs would be great!

I've been toying with the idea of one of those Hummer bodykits for old Burbs, and like bright neon orange and purple and blue camo...

I believe espen88(a guy from northern Europe who is on the board every so often) painted his K5 in the gray/black/white camo scheme. Maybe he could lend you some advice?

Why is those of us who see camoflage every day can't wait to paint our M1009 to civilian color standards. And those on the outside think our trucks look cool in camo.

Well if they would let me hunt deer and squirrells from the blazer I would paint it camo in a heart beat. Then I could install a turrent in the hard top.....and keep my toes warm in the winter. Then hook up a funnel like what we had in the helicopters and never have to leave your seat....heheheheh [IMG]

Saw an M1009 on the way in to work today, yeah, it's funny that a civvy would want such a thing.

I spose if you're awaiting the apocalypse, a M1009 might make a decent survivalist truck, but then, painting it flat black might do just as well in such a situation.

It's the damn Hummers I find hilarious. People spending $80-100K on a truck and then tricking it out and trying to make it look like an HMMWV. I don't get it.

Me, I think a Hummer bodykit on an old Burb would be a great way to get back. Relatively cheap, and I could do an "Urban Camouflage" paintjob to hide in the parking lots and shopping malls -- that would be the neon green and pink camo I was talking about ;-)

It'd be an attention-getter anyway, heh?

The little tiny one that you cant really see is my fav so far. Its called electric blue tigerstripe. Allthough the urban camo might look best on the truck. There will be pics posted very soon. CP87JIMMY seemed pretty excited about painting it with me, so It will probably happen.

Burt, do you like the blue tiger or the white urban camo better? Hard to say what they will look like on the truck. I just dont want the law hassling me, dont care about my paint.

    LOL!

BTW, you can get matching neoprene seat covers in a pattern like that,

Wet Okole -- look at their Colors section.

And oh, their new Hawaiian patterns, LOL!

    The Blue Tiger!!
Keeping the colors similar would be more of a blend effect!
May be allot of work if the paterens are too small so I would open them up a bit.??
The blue looks way better than the browns/tan/white stuff!
