One tons have been around forever, especially in 2WD. One tons with a front D60 started in 77.

The VIN# is for a one ton truck, but there are on single rear tires, it is not dually.

I worked for a guy that had a one ton dually with a dump box on it. I had to drive it now and then and it was pretty damn slow but would haul anything you threw in the box...at the end of the day I filled up fuel and checked the oil and was very surprised to see a 6 cylinder under the hood. I'm pretty sure the truck was 80 something...it had the newer style front clip. The 6 must have been the standard engine.

Is there a way that I would be able to find out what the gear ratio my truck by the VIN#? My guess it would have to be vary low like 4.56:1, or 5.14:1 because of the 292ci inline six.

NOTE: Thanks for the help everybody

Probably 4.56, but you'd have to pull the cover off the rear to be sure.
