The kick down cable? Just manually control the shift and it should be fine until you fix it. You'll have to replace the whole thing

    I've got a mind like a . . . a . . . what's that thing called?

You can get a whole new one for 15 or 20 bucks.

An '87 should have a 700R4 in it. If it does still have the stock tranny, then driving with the Throttle Valve cable disconnected will shortly result in one humongous repair bill. [IMG] I recommend that you don't drive it until you fix or replace the cable.
