Can it be? A 11.5\" or 12\"........ 14 bolt GM corp axle

I just received my new Performance accessories catalog last night and while thumbing along I came across those Mag Hytec Dif covers and proceded to check out the pricing. The thing I noticed was that they offered a dif cover for two different GM 14 bolt Corp axles, hmmm so I think 9.5 and 10.5 OK, NOPE it was 10.5 and a 11.5" cover. WTF? Is this something new or what? Any info on this axle? I checked at the Hytec website and they only offer the 10.5" dif cover, but in the coming soon they mention a GM 14 Bolt in a 12". Another WTF came to mind !! Just when we think we have all the axle info fugured out they go and put a wrench in your spokes.
On another note while speaking about axles. What size is the ring gear in a Dana 44 ? LMC catalog shows it to be 9 3/8 I think it was, but the axle I.D. chart on CK5 show 8.5 and that is what I thought they were. Is it the HD Dana 44 or the rear Dana 44 that is a 9 3/8 ?

The 11.5 ring gear axle is in the new HD GM trucks--haven't heard about the 12" ring gear though. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

That's what I figured, but wanted to check with the CK5 crew !! Next questions are: Do they make this in a single rear wheel design? How much bigger is this beast, as in axle diameter, weight, ground clearance, does Detroit make a locker for it yet, ect...

Yeah they are avaliable in both single and dual wheel configuarations, not sure about the specs. GM dealer should have the specs on them ie.,weight, axle id, spline count and dimiensions. I would call tratech direct or 4WP about the locker /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I have the 11 1/2" axle under my '01 GMC. Ground clearance is horrible, hangs a couple inches (guess) lower than a 10 1/2 incher. The axle has a harmonic damper on the pinion, which would also be a liability off-road. I haven't pulled an axle shaft yet to check diameter and splines, gotta do that. You would really have to want something bigger than a 10 1/2 incher to try to use this axle in any kind of swap. I know that Dodge is using AAM (GM corp.) axles under their new HD trucks, so there may be some more versions floating around soon. I have to go look at one of the Dodges, as I think they may be using an AAM solid front axle under them too (first AAM solid front ever?). I am curious what diff they started with to build that (9 1/2")?

    LMC is on crack...it's 8.5" /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

The larger 14 bolts would be a liability off road cuz of clearance issues...and the extra ring gear size just isn't necessary for out purposes.

    2500HDs with the 6.0 l engine get the 10 1/2" 14 bolt. 11 1/2" is in Dmax and 8100 trucks only.

Didn't realize the 6.0 2500HD and 3500HD's came with the 10.5 rear axle. I thought it was just the regular 2500 not the HD's. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
