    Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

How many of you can spin your 42's or 44's on dry cement?
If you can, post up your engine size and gear ratio /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I can, But at the hefty cost of tires today I don't even think about it. Besides if I wanted to that I would build a Hot Rod.

    I know I don't have 42-44s, but I can burn my 38's with 5.13s /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Thats exactly what I heard last time I tried to light up my 37's on a freshly paved street. I heard the motor screaming and when I dropped the clutch...BANG!!!completely gernaded my rear shaft...I haven't done it since...

The title reminds me of something a friend told me several years ago about his Chevy Citation company car. He said that the only way that car would "leave rubber" was if he tossed one out the window as he drove away. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    Re: Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

My old K10 would spin my 44's mercilessly. I could lay approximately 60' of marks at will, about that far out it was usually too far sideways to stay in it. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif I know this sounds like b/s bragging but TARussell, Ratzilla and maybe Rob85K5 can vouch for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    The motor was a roller 468, 5.13's and 44" TSL's.

    Re: Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

Nope. I run a welded 14bff, TPI350, 700R4, 4.56's and can't smoke 35's. I get mad axle wrap if it does try and spin and usually it just pushes my locked up front tires down the pavement.

I stopped trying because I didn't feel like destroying my driveshaft. I found out yesterday that I had snapped a spring eye pin. Most likely from the added torque it has been seeing since the TPI conversion.

If I took the top off and took all my spare parts, tire, toos, jack, etc out of the back of my truck I probably could. I still don't like the ideal of putting the strain on the driveshaft, 208, and 700R4.

    Re: Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

I could smoke my 36" TSL's whenever my front tires had enough traction to overcome the rears with the detroit and 4.88's. Grooved tires wear down fast when you're showing off for hot chicks in a Camaro /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I have stock tires, stock ratio(guessing 3.08), 305, TH350 and I can't. I really want to but just can't. Hoping to change gears this spring.

    Re: Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

I could with my auto when a brake torqued with 35s and 4.10s and a gov loc.

Only time I can light up the 38.5x16s is if it's raining and I get a little bit crazy with throttle. Scares the [darn] out of you too because you never expect tires that big to spin.

    Re: Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

the old 396 would easily burn the 38's, the 454 did a bit and in my 83 blazer the 350 does a fine job on the 33's...it's even better with granny gear /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

If ya take it easy on the 83 you could have something to drive all the time. With normal driving I chucked my ten bolt in 3 years /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    Re: Can you \"Burn rubber\"?

this is probably a stupid question, lol

but how do you do this in an automatic?

rev the engine in Neutral then put it in drive?

or just step on the gas really fast
