OK so this week my truck starts sliding on turns and chirping the tires rear bad and clunks a few times around corners bad.

I pulled the diff and took out the carrier, there was alot of metal shavings but no chewed up gears like I was exspecting.

The drive shaft will spin and then vilently catch after a few tries to get it in gear. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I put it in four high and the front ha no problems..other than the cv hitting the crossmember, but thats anther project for some other day /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    So my thoughts are that..

my tranny is ok, because all is well in 4wd with the front

the t-casse may be going bad?? 203

or the gove lock is the culprit?

But would the gov lock allow the drive shaft spinning then catching?

I am so confused here, looks like a detroit and open carrier at the end of the month and a new tranny while I am at it /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Sounds like a bearing or the gov lok with the metal shavings

How about the pinion bearing..and the gove lock,

could the gov lock going out cause the pinion bearing to go too, after talking with another member I feel that may be the problem.

So this would still allow the slop in the drive shaft?

    spin then catch? /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Yup thats exactlly what it is, Gov-Lock go boom!

Exact same thing happend to me last year. It felt like the rear end would launch off the ground when it hit. I finally dropped my rear shaft and drove in 4 high for about 3 months till I could afford to get the rear end fixed. It's funny without the driveshaft in place it never once made a noise or locked up.
