My 81 Jimmy came with a SM465/NP208 combo from the factory. If the replacement 208 you have is 32 spline it should fit no problem. Make sure you get all the pedals and linkages for the swap...

You'll also need to re-do the driveshafts after the swap, the SM 465/NP208 is shorter than the 700R-4 set-up. It is worth it for a tranny that will not blow up once a year though[IMG]

yes it will work if the spine count is the same your better off if ya can pull those parts your self. because you will need a lot of difrent bolts the flywheel and pressure plate bolts. also dont forget to install a pilot bushing or better yet a bearing (6.2 diesels run them) in the crank. enjoy that granny low gear.

your 700R4 transfer case has a 27 spline input gear, the sm465 transfer case has a 32 spline input, you should be able to put the 32 spline input gear from the bad transfer into your transfer case.

If by that you mean it takes all the metal in a Pinto to be melted down to make one sm465, then yes it is a Pinto transmission.[IMG]
