Guys, well I finally got my top after the long wait. Just looking at it made the wait well worth it. I highly recommend it. The frame is strong and the workmanship is awesome! In my opinion, it sure beats the Kayline I had a while back. Anyway, click on my link below to see the pics.

    BigTex,

What color is your truck? Olive Drab? I am kinda leaning towards a color like that for my 74. Did you rattle can it, (looks too nice for that) or have it professionally painted?

    Sorry, a little off-topic!

    Jeremy,

Thanks! It is Olive Drab and the only rattle can paint on it is the interior metal. Basically, I wanted to paint it Olive Drab so when I tore it all apart, I painted the interior metal and firewall with Krylon's Olive Drab paint. Then I went to Maaco and told them to match it to the interior color. They matched the color perfectly, but it wasn't as flat as I wanted it. I wanted a very flat finish to hide my so-so amateur body work (painting a vehicle flat hides a lot of body work imperfections). I don't know anything about paints, but I know they could have made the finish more flat.

Although they didn't get it like I wanted, I still like it. It grew on me and I have even seen some older military vehicles with the same finish. In other words, not flat.

I have some paint codes if anyone is interested. The guy at Maaco told me anyone could use those to get the same effect. Now I don't know if this is true since I don't know very much about paint.

I was pondering doing a rattle can job because that paint is awesome, but I also wanted something durable. Since this is my only vehicle, I need more durability than just a rattle can. Plus, I "only" paid 300 bucks for it and it has a 6 month guarantee. Its by no means an awesome paint job and that is very obvious if you look at it up close, but I have to say I am pretty satisfied.

Thanks for the info! I really like the color and I think it looks great! By chance, do you know the paint code from Maaco?
I think my wallet can handle the $300. One more question, did you do all the prep work yourself, or did the $300 include paint and prep? I also know jack sh!t about paint and body work.

Looks awesome Big T, after I get a few dents and repair them I might go the olive drab look, but I think my wife would kill me.

No problem. I have them on a sheet of paper and I could fax them to you if you wish, or I will send you an email with them if you prefer.

I did all the prep work myself. It hardly had any rust so I basically did a lot of sanding. I also sprayed it with rattle can primer. The 300 bucks includes them sanding it and applying a sealer and then the paint. Their sanding job was not very good, though.

I would highly recommend you do the prep work yourself, unless you are looking for a show-quality paint job. It is not hard work, but does involve a lot of elbow grease.

Thanks, Steve. I'd love to see your rig in Olive Drab! Just do it and suffer the consequences later[IMG].

    BigTex,

I think I can handle some sanding. I am by no means looking for a show quality paint job. I will have to get a few dings and rust spots fixed first. You can just send me an email to
    Jeremy.Begick@Dana.com for the paint codes.

    Thanks alot!
